2004 Dodge Neon SXT review from North America
"Great car, sad to see they stopped making them"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Nothing has gone wrong with the car. Other than normal maintenance, the only issue that I have is the rear brakes. They squeal horribly in the most remotely moist conditions. if its humid, rainy, or if they in any way get wet, they squeak very loudly. Its very embarrassing. My previous neon had the same issue with the drum brakes in back. I have found that if you hold up the emergency brake gently in 1st gear for 100 feet or so, the screeching goes away after that. Furthermore, new brakes didn't squeak for a couple hundred miles, then back to the squealing at the stop sign by my house for all the neighbors to hear.
I'm also not as thrilled with the cheaper black fabric over the older style (00/01).
General comments?
The car, for a 4cyl, is pretty quick.
The car gets great mileage.
Interior space is enough for daily driving, even with 2 kids.
The seat lacks lumbar support, on long trips it literally becomes a pain.
Rear windows are not power.
The car does well in winter weather (but not with the stock tires).
This car loses value badly starting the day you drive it home.
Handles very well, even in auto-cross.
This is a great commuter car.
