1991 Dodge Stealth R/T 3.0 V 6 from North America

Summary:

This car is a a great car compared to like models and year

Faults:

Had to replace the CV boot at 88,000.

Had to replace brake rotors at 85,000.

Transmission went out at 89,000, the day after I sold it.

General Comments:

This car is very fast and responds quickly even for the ES or R/T model. I can only imagine what driving the twin turbo would be like.

Compared to the MANY other sports cars that I have had, it has been my favorite. It has been no harder to maintain than any other sports car I have had of its generation and performance. The styling is timeless and modifications are easy over all. My only issue is the "cockpit", which can be hard on the knees for anyone 6ft or taller.

If you are interested in a classy performance car, definitely try the Stealth ES, R/T, or R/T TT. My suggestion, have it as a project and not your main car because it does require expensive maintenance. Keep in mind these cars are getting old, they will have problems, and they don't make them anymore. Parts are hard to find and they can be expensive.

1991 Dodge Stealth R/T 3.0L V6 from North America

Summary:

It's a great car, great on gas, asks so little...wouldn't trade it for anything

Faults:

Had to have the passenger side window motor and regulator assembly replaced (only the regulator was bad... but are contained in same unit... and both had to be replaced) when I bought it with 90,000 miles on it. ($400)

The active suspension no longer works. It has a mind of its own. The dealer told me that the front strut cap would need to be replaced, but, I just had it unhooked. ($0)

At 120,000 the front CV boots were diagnosed as torn and it was going to cost $200 to replace the boots or $300 to just replace the CV shafts. (Common issue with a car with this type of mileage) I opted to replace the shafts, but, the dealer could not find the right part. They ordered and reordered several times and were unsuccessful. My uncle (a local mechanic) called one of his parts suppliers and found both CV shafts for $40 a shaft (much better than the $100 the dealer was trying to charge).

General Comments:

I bought this car from the second owner. It had 90,000 highway miles and the car is in excellent condition.

The paint still looks great for a 15 year old car as well as the cloth seats (no unusual wear). The body, interior, even the original factory 'Stealth' monogrammed floor-mats are immaculate.

Anywhere I go, at-least one person asks me "What year is that?" or "What type of car is that?" The design on these cars are quite timeless and still look nice along side todays modern day sports cars.

As far as performance goes, handles great (I'm sure you have read that before), stops on a dime (thanks to new ceramic brake pads) and is rather quick. I just had new Traction T/A tires put on the car and it made a world of difference. Handles even better than when I bought it and handles 10 times better in the rain (switched to V rated tires) Oh... and never stop next to someone at a light... I get a lot of people revving there engines in hopes that I would race them...

1991 Dodge Stealth R/T from North America

Summary:

I love it!

Faults:

I bought the car from the second owner who bought it with 5,000 miles on it in the mid 90's. He put a majority of the miles on the car and kept the service up to date.

The only thing that has "gone wrong" with the car is the active suspension system. The system would turn itself on and I had no way to turn it off manually. It is very costly to repair ($140 for one strut cap and almost $300 for the strut tower) but I had the dealer unhook the system to keep it from randomly turning on.

The only other issue was the $400 to fix my driver side window.

General Comments:

I love this car. I wouldn't trade it for anything. It's quick, handles great, and still gets looks for a 15 year old car. Just be warned... they are expensive to be fixed.
