1991 Dodge Stealth R/T review from North America
"It's a great car, great on gas, asks so little...wouldn't trade it for anything"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Had to have the passenger side window motor and regulator assembly replaced (only the regulator was bad... but are contained in same unit... and both had to be replaced) when I bought it with 90,000 miles on it. ($400)
The active suspension no longer works. It has a mind of its own. The dealer told me that the front strut cap would need to be replaced, but, I just had it unhooked. ($0)
At 120,000 the front CV boots were diagnosed as torn and it was going to cost $200 to replace the boots or $300 to just replace the CV shafts. (Common issue with a car with this type of mileage) I opted to replace the shafts, but, the dealer could not find the right part. They ordered and reordered several times and were unsuccessful. My uncle (a local mechanic) called one of his parts suppliers and found both CV shafts for $40 a shaft (much better than the $100 the dealer was trying to charge).
General comments?
I bought this car from the second owner. It had 90,000 highway miles and the car is in excellent condition.
The paint still looks great for a 15 year old car as well as the cloth seats (no unusual wear). The body, interior, even the original factory 'Stealth' monogrammed floor-mats are immaculate.
Anywhere I go, at-least one person asks me "What year is that?" or "What type of car is that?" The design on these cars are quite timeless and still look nice along side todays modern day sports cars.
As far as performance goes, handles great (I'm sure you have read that before), stops on a dime (thanks to new ceramic brake pads) and is rather quick. I just had new Traction T/A tires put on the car and it made a world of difference. Handles even better than when I bought it and handles 10 times better in the rain (switched to V rated tires) Oh... and never stop next to someone at a light... I get a lot of people revving there engines in hopes that I would race them...
