1997 Ford Contour GL 2.5L V6 from North America

Summary:

The V6 is a good car

Faults:

- Ignition module

- Battery

- Tires

- Front brake rotors

General Comments:

I like the car. I had a few recalls on the car, but the dealer was fast and I even got a coffee out of it. I had a 4 cylinder Contour for a loner and I hated it, but the V6 that I own is really nice.

I can't complain. Back seat leg room is tight. That's about it. Better than a Buick Regal, that's for sure.

1997 Ford Contour GL 2.0 Liter from North America

Summary:

My car appears to be a lemon

Faults:

The catalytic converter went out at 10,000 miles.

My seat had to be replaced at 12,000, because it wouldn't slide forward or backwards.

The air conditioner leaked because the power steering pump was rattling against it.

One of the belts in the transmission broke.

My solenoid went out causing my spark plugs to get carbon build up. This cost $1500 to get fixed.

My car has been dying when we put it in gear. Ford has no idea why.

My drivers side seat had to be replaced at 65,000 miles, because the top half broke off of the bottom half.

My headlights and dash lights wouldn't turn on one night. After putting the car into the shop, it was found there was a recall on a switch that caused this problem.

There has been several recalls on this car in the last three years.

General Comments:

The car has been a nightmare to keep. I never know when it might break down next.

I found this car to be great. I changed my camshaft and added a 4" exhaust and the thing is screaching past most imports. Just a little engine work and the Contour really hauls!. With a new camshaft, I give the performance a 9/10. I have had no problems with this car, handling in the winter is great and driving hard in the summer is excellent.
