1998 Ford Escort ZX2 Sport 2.0L Zetec from North America

Summary:

Good-looking and economical

Faults:

The windshield washer pump and trunk solenoid are both out. No other problems have occurred.

General Comments:

After installing an Iceman intake, Accel coil, K&N filter, and a Pacesetter Quick-shift, performance increased noticeably. I get 27 city/33 highway mpg. Handling improved with switching the stock rear sway bar with a mid-90's Escort GT sway bar, and going to a 195/60 instead of stock 185/60 tires. I ditched the stock stereo for a Pioneer DEH-3300 and Polk speakers, too. Long trips (+200 miles) get a bit tiresome, but it's a good commuter.

1998 Ford Escort Finesse 1.6i Zetec from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Smart looking car at a good price

Faults:

Not much at all. Known the car since 2000 and nothing has failed since then. I will regret saying the above.

Ford built the last few escorts very well.

General Comments:

The zetec engine is smooth and quick for its size. Drawback is that it's a bit juicy unless driven carefully.

Good options and spec.

CD player is of a good quality for the manufacturer fit.

1998 Ford Escort ZX2 from North America

Summary:

A good, economical car that rides in style

Faults:

I haven't had anything go wrong with this car.

Just the usual maintenence of oil changes and new brakes and tires.

General Comments:

I liked the look and features of this car.

It has fog lights, sunroof and a rear spoiler and a cd changer.

This car gets a lot use as a I do a lot of driving for my job.

I haven't had one problem with it.

Everything still works fine.

Although the interior (checkered grey) isn't the coolest looking thing in the world.

Slightly uncomfortable on long journeys.

1998 Ford Escort Ghia 1.4i from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A great all rounder

Faults:

Nothing to speak of.

General Comments:

This car is a great car to travel in as it is very comfortable. It has 15" Ford Alloys which add to the looks of the car. Even though it is only a 1.4i it has a good turn of speed if you know how to drive it properly. Handling in my car is very good and I have great fun driving it on the twisty back roads of Ireland. All mod cons help also like sunroof and electric mirrors.

1998 Ford Escort ZX2 2.0 I-4 Zetec DOHC from North America

Summary:

It's the bomb!!!

Faults:

Timing belt tensioner went wrong and threw off the timing.

General Comments:

This car has a lot of bang for your buck, I calculate it should be just about the best bang for your buck ratio you got going out there.

The car is a trooper, I have been putting it through severities and it has not complained until the timing went off. I have put a serious dent in the arrogance of the Honda owners.

1998 Ford Escort ZX2 Sport 2.0L 16v from North America

Summary:

Best performance value on the planet

Faults:

Nothing, this car left the dealer lot and has never been back.

General Comments:

You cannot find a better value automobile.

Granted the car is small, but this makes it both fast and affordable to operate.

Only complaint is there is not an inside trunk release, and with a single key you must shut off the car to open the trunk, this has been corrected for the 2000 model year and beyond.

This car is driven hard, even at the dragstrip, and continues to be free of any defects. The dragstrip was loaded and tough to hookup, but the car still ran 16.81 in the middle of August at 90 degrees. Not too many normally aspirated 4 bangers can perform at this level, especially at 16k sticker price.

Actually there is a way to rig the remote trunk power release from the inside. I got the info. on a website 2 years ago and did the mod. it took all of 30 minutes to do it and it works. The wiring is already in place from the factory. I will track down the info. and forward it yo you ASAP.
