1999 Ford Escort SE Sedan 2.0 from North America

Summary:

Reliable and Easy on your Wallet

Faults:

At 99800+ miles the car seemed to have trouble starting, though only stalled once, but then started right back up, I had the car checked and it turns out the radiator had never been flushed, it was full of rust, since that has been fixed it runs great again.

When I got the car the brakes were bad, but it just needed pads and rotors, and new tires.

The previous owner had to travel for his job, which accounts for the high miles, but he also didn't take very good care of it. Luckily I have caught these problems before anything has happened to the engine, which runs great.

The battery died at about 99500 miles, but it was the original, nothing major to have to fix yet.

The seats aren't that comfortable to me, although the inside is nice.

General Comments:

I like my 4 cylinder Escort, it hasn't let me down yet. It's got pep for only being a 4 cylinder.

1999 Ford Escort SE 2.0Liter 110 hp from North America

Summary:

Great car for the money.

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with the car so far.

General Comments:

I love my 1999 Ford Escort SE. The radio is not all that bad for factory. I wish it came with a CD player instead or a tape player. The seats are comfy and there is a lot of room in the car. I think you could transport 4 adults short distances without much complaint. On long trips I would stick with two. I like the cup holders and the map lights. The only thing I wish my escort had was ABS for the winter. But it only cost me $3750 to buy.

1999 Ford Escort from North America

Summary:

Great reliable car for the money

Faults:

Check engine light has been on since I bought it.

Dealership cannot figure out why the light is still on? It does not bother me at all though.

Paint scratches easily.

General Comments:

I work as a delivery driver and that is why I have so many miles on the car. I put around 43000 miles in a year.

I find that the car is very comfortable (small guy 5'4" around 145 lbs) for a bigger person it might not be comfortable.

Great gas mileage.

I have had other Ford vehicles that I have lost due to transmission problems. The only Ford I will ever buy again is an Escort.

1999 Ford Escort ZX2 2.0L SOHC from North America

Summary:

Disapointingly Mediocre

Faults:

-New Front Axle at 90K

-Seems like it needs new rotors every other week.

-New Alternator at 91K

-The front end of this car is horrible. I took it to three different mechanics, and none of them know what in god's name is wrong with this car. Thus, it shakes when you hit 60MPH.

-The paint on the hood is cracked.

-The headliner is already sagging horribly, and this car is a '99...

General Comments:

Honestly, it's a great car for a modern day car. Most modern day cars don't last past 120K, so I guess this is a good car? I'm strictly a Volvo guy, the only reason why I have this car is because it's my dad's old hand-me down. He didn't want it anymore, so I took it. With me being an avid Volvo lover, I guess I'm a bit spoiled. So maybe this car isn't as bad as I make it out to be? I hate this sad excuse of a "clutch". It's the weakest clutch I've ever shifted. I think a 8 month hold could shift this car with ease. It's a boring car to drive, and it's not safe at all to drive. If an SUV hits you, you're toast. The steering is too sensitive, and if I sneeze the wrong way, I'll end up in a ditch. I'm appalled at the fact the headliner is sagging, and the paint is cracked. This car is a '99! It's 5 years old for crying out loud! Well, I guess it's something I should expect from an American car. It's "sporty" looking, and that's about it. I'll sacrafice looks with reliability and stick with my Volvos.

I'm sorry, but I have to dissagree with some of the things you said. yeah the alternator goes early, but I'm at 104k miles and I can still bust 115 pretty easy. without any shaking.

To the original reviewer, it sounds like your car was in a bad accident and/or not repaired correctly, like my accord I bought, the best car except for everything gin the front end was unreliable, later finding out it was a salvage car...very pissed.

I own a 1999 Escort ZX2.

I can only say one thing. I'm glad I bought this car as a winter beater because that is the only thing it's good for. It is the biggest pile of junk I ever owned.

With Ford you get what you get.
