1990 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 V-8 from North America

Summary:

A great all around performance car

Faults:

The only problem I've had with my 5.0 is the transmission.

General Comments:

The car is a sunny day car only, it doesn't see snow or rain. In the summer we take it on trips, and to the drag strip every now and then.

I have added the usual performance products, and the car is pretty reliable.

I upgraded to a Tremec 3500 transmission when the stock T-5 fragged.

The car could be a little more comfortable on long trips, but the thrill of driving it makes you forget about comfort.

1990 Ford Mustang GT 5.0L from North America

Faults:

Fuel pump.

Tranny @ 103000.

Seats are faded.

Dashboard/electrical problems.

General Comments:

This car is fast, it can kill most cars out on the road. It does waste quite a bit of gas, but that's the price you pay with a V8 5.0.

In my opinion the car's design isn't very good, not comfortable in any sort of way. Even with the top down, this car is made for speed. It's like having a big engine on wheels. I like the fact that I can outrun most other cars in this car, but still, it doesn't outweigh the negatives. Maybe the newer stangs are better (94+).

Also the lack of ABS is disappointing.

1990 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 HO from North America

Summary:

A childhood dream come true

Faults:

The transmission required a rebuild shortly after I purchased the car (due to lack of maintenance by the previous owner / transmission fluid was extremely dirty and burned before rebuild).

I also am experiencing surging idle for which I am currently researching a possible solution.

General Comments:

I have had an obsession with the 87-93 Mustang 5.0 since the age of 11 when my cousin purchased an 89 LX (which he still owns to this day).

At the age of 22 I was finally able to purchase the car that I wanted so badly as a young child.

Now that I have my baby she sits side by side with my 2000 Explorer in the driveway. As the years pass I will have gone through many cars, but my Pony and I will be together until death do us part.

In my short life of 22 years I have owned nothing but Ford vehicles (1998 Ford Contour SE, 2000 Ford Explorer XLT, 1990 Ford Mustang LX). I am and forever will be a loyal Ford customer for life!!!

Your surging idle is due to a bad Idle Air Bypass Solenoid , you can buy one cheap or just take it off and clean the cylinder with carb cleaner, carbon deposits are making the piston stick.

I am 17 and I too have just realized that dream. At 16 I received my first car, a very dirty, but great running 1990 mustang 5.0 LX convertible. For 1200 dollars. I LOVE IT.

1990 Ford Mustang LX 2.3 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Awesome car!!

Faults:

Well I've only had the car for like 3 days but I love it. The only thing I had to replace was the oil pan, it had 2 small holes in it and of course I gave it a tune up.

General Comments:

This car is awesome!! I've always wanted a Mustang and now I'm hooked. I'm even looking for a '76 Mustang (the year I was born). They are great cars and look good. This is definitely a car I will NOT get rid of!

I'm hoping to acquire more in the future, this is the beginning of a very addictive hobby.

1990 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 from North America

Summary:

Simply the best all-around car on the road

Faults:

Nothing major. At over 190,000 miles, you expect some stuff to wear out, and that's basically all I've had to replace.

General Comments:

Again, for close to 200,000 miles, and when you take into account that I only paid $3000 for it, this car simply cannot be beat. Yeah, it has some rattles and stuff like that; but all those sounds go away when I press on the gas and am pressed back into my seat. Simply put... I'll always own a Mustang.
