1995 Ford Ranger XLT 4.0 from North America

Summary:

This is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned, bar none

Faults:

Windshield wipers come on and then go off without warning.

Dome light comes on and stays on for too long sometimes.

Door chime takes too long to off sometimes.

Transmission synchronizers are shot.

Headliner is rotting.

Replaced numerous heater control valves.

Paint is fading.

Speedometer and odometer have quit recently.

General Comments:

This is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned.

Leaks NO fluids at all.

Rear brake pads are original.

Starter original.

Water pump original.

Uses NO oil.

No rust.

Original battery lasted 10 years.

Very dependable and never has left me stranded.

Replaced clutch at 150000.

4.0 motor strong and this truck does not use any oil between changes at 5000 miles.

I like it so much, I just bought a used 99 Ranger with a 4.0 and only 57000 miles on it, and it's like new, one owner.

1995 Ford Ranger XLT 3.0? from North America

Summary:

For the age and type, I think it is an excellent inexpensive little truck

Faults:

Occasional door ajar/dome light/chimes issue. Has stopped within 3 or 4 minutes up till now - will use WD 40 as I just read it here.

Also, the check engine light is perpetually on - I hate that.

And the cruise doesn't work (checked fuses - OK).

Auto trans jerks when changing out - particularly in high gear.....

General Comments:

Truck was 13 years old when I bought it, so I was dubious in regard to the low mileage. Now I think I understand - someone unhooked the odometer to fix the chiming problem! I hope not.

The oil is clean and full after the last change 3000 miles ago.

Transmission (automatic) changes out at the right time, however I notice a certain roughness or jerk when it does. Having had a 1996 Ranger XLT 4 cyl manual trans that went kaput, this is a concern. A major expense for a single woman. I'd almost rather get another vehicle than to put that much money into such an old truck.

The check engine light is perpetually on - I am assuming some sort of emissions issue - and the cruise doesn't work - yep - checked both fuses referred to in the owners manual.

I'd probably seldom use it, but would like for everything to be working just the same - it's a girl thing I guess. Any tips?

And don't be gentle with me guys - one of my earliest memories is being behind the wheel of some old car - feet dangling inches above the floorboard - waiting for my father (sweating and swearing under the hood) to give the "bump the starter" command...

Oh, and I love to bass fish too... and look pretty darn good in my little black dress when I wanna... Thanks!

1995 Ford Ranger from North America

Faults:

Dome light and door alarm stays on. Usually occurs in hot months (result below).

Also the odometer quit working 3 years ago; any input on resolving this problem?

General Comments:

Had the dealer replace the door switch at a cost of $102.00. The problem recurred. I used the previous recommended remedy of spraying WD-40 in door latch assembly. Problem resolved!!

1995 Ford Ranger XLT Super Cab 4.0L V6 from North America

Summary:

Best money I have ever spent!

Faults:

Rear sliding window leaked water.

Rear leaf spring mounts rusted through at 120,000 miles.

Trans had to be rebuilt at 96,000 miles. Thought it should have been longer since I don't beat the truck.

General Comments:

Truck still has the original fuel pump, alternator, starter and exhaust system.

Not one oil leak off the engine.

Just recently did a compression test on all six cylinders; 150 lbs of squeeze in each cylinder.

Doesn't burn any oil at 138,000 miles.
