Front Driver Door badly corroded.

Front Passenger Door corroded.

General Comments:

Nice car to drive and would certainly consider buying a newer model of the same shape, Interior hard to beat on cars of same year..

1989 Ford Sierra GLS 4x4 2.9 V6 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Clutch started to slip, also a bit juddery so was replaced. Expensive as garage spent time on manifold downpipes [seized].

Broken front spring. New front discs at 70K.

All usual thing such as Tyres, Battery.

Have heard that water pumps don't last, mine replaced at 52K.

Last owner made a mess of changing the plenum chamber gasket so this was replaced at 60K.

F/O/S ABS sensor renewed after car skelped kerb.

Rear drive shaft required stripping and repacking with fresh grease. Exhaust has given no trouble yet but looks like it may shortly - 2nd exhaust since new.

General Comments:

Grips like nothing else and is definitely worth hanging onto as nothing else Uncle Henry makes can replace it.

Would like to buy a late XR4x4 and keep as a possible future classic.

1989 Ford Sierra GLS 4x4 2.9 V6 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Discs replaced at 50k.

Recurring problem with clutch cable, due to repeated poor fitting by 3 different places. Its been fine since *I* refitted it!

I've just blown the engine :-( but that's life (it'd only done 70k - low for an 89). Big end gone, loss of oil pressure, tappets/rockers on one side of V gone. I think engine failure was brought on by induction of water when I drove though a flood the prevoius day.]

But engine was FINE until that point - so I have no complaints.

General Comments:

Great value for money. Seems that 4x4 was on option on the normally 2.0l GLS. But if you specced 4x4 you got the 2.9 V6 XR engine :-) The engine is not terribly refined - but has LOADS of low-end torque. Dunno if this is due to the capacity, or 'V'. Interior and exterior same as normal GLS, so kind of an XR-wolf in GLS-sheep's clothing.

Can't fault the performance for the money. Having experienced 4x4, I'd never go back to 2 wheel drive. Its a REAL grin round corners, and feels SO secure.

Thirsty - but fun!
