I had to replace both the upper and lower ball joints at about 140,000 miles.
The radiator tank cracked and had to be replaced at about the same time as the ball joints.
Heating Core went out (not yet replaced as I live in a hot area of the US!) at about 132,000 miles.
Alternator also went out at the same time as Heating core, although I believe this was due to a faulty battery and not the car itself.
I have had to replace both control arms.
Shocks and struts where replaced at 129,000 miles.
Brakes are a constant money zapper, rotors and calipers have been replaced and I go through Brake Pads like tissue, although I'm not the best driver.
Although it has cost me a pretty penny to maintain, it has over 145,000 miles on it (more or less, the odometer stopped working)
It is great for city traffic, getting you to a fast speed quickly.
One of the big downsides of this car is that it guzzles gas. But what do you expect from a 10 year old V8?!
To fix your gas problem all you have to do is change to fuel filter witch is under the passenger side of the car for like 20 dalors and a good fuel pump for like 80 it works for me, but know I have a problem with the air intake it don't pull hardly any air.
To fix your fuel problem, change the spark plugs and its wiring... it'll add a few miles to the gallon...
Hey...I need some help... I just went today and test drove a 1995 Ford Thunderbird LX Sport with the 4.6 V8. Its automatic with power windows, door locks, power seats, auto climate control, auto lights. It's only got 83,000 miles on it originally. My parents are freinds with the current owners and they are selling it to me for 2000 dollars... I LOVE IT... it handles better than my grandparents 1991 Cadillac Sedan Deville that I am currently driving. But the odometer just stopped working like a month ago so she stopped driving it. The speedometer works, but the odometer stopped... I don't wanna get a new cluster if I don't have to, Does anyone have any tips on how to get it fixed? Please Email me at northcarolina_countryboy90@yahoo.com all the tips I get, the better.
To fix the odometer remove the cluster from the dash. remove the speedometer from the cluster. in the back you will see the odometer. small square shaped box. remove that from the speedometer. carefuly open the meter and you will see the little gears inside. one of these gears is stripped or a tooth is missing.
I had this problem with mine. mine has only has 61000 miles on not bad for a 1995. I was important to not mess up the reading on it because I could not claim the miles were right if tapered with the reading of it. If you remove the gear and replace it with a used one from the junk yard you can still keep the miles that were on it when you started with it. hope this helps your problem.
