1990 Geo Storm GSi 1.6L DOHC Isuzu from North America

Summary:

Best car I've owned

Faults:

I am not really sure of any mileage with this car.

Clutch wore out (I abused it with much bigger rims).

CV shaft went out.

O-ring between distributor and engine went out.

Random wiring issues (the engine had been out twice).

General Comments:

This was the most fun-to-drive car I have ever driven. The handling was phenomenal, the ratios in the transmission were spot on for running through the gears or some twisties.

I think I used to get something like 38 MPG out of it, and I spent most of my time beating the bejeezus out of that poor car.

I liked the way you sat "into" the car. The center console was kinda tall, the sit wrapped around you and offered great support. It was comfortable and sporty feeling.

I would love to have another one of these cars, to see what it is like now that I don't treat my street car like someone else's race car.

1990 Geo Storm GSI 1.6 DOHC from North America

Summary:

A lot of fun to drive

Faults:

This is pretty amazing. One day I was driving from the store, when I noticed some smoke coming from under the hood and the cab of the car. I pulled over and popped the hood, when flames came rolling out. I accidentally dropped the hood so I had to run around and re-pop the hood and pour my powerade on the fire to put it out. I took it back to the place that I bought it from. They said it was the sensor that controls the E.G.R. valve that malfunctioned and caught fire. I also found out that the part that caught fire, they no longer make. So, they now have to go to the junk yard and get me one. They also said, and I quote, "if we can't find one, you are s.o.l."

General Comments:

Don't get me wrong, I love this car. It is a load of fun to drive and they get good fuel millage. The car surprisingly handles corners well, and accelerates out of the turns. I Have a blast just running around town.

1990 Geo Storm 2+2 1.4 I think from North America

Summary:

Bring it back

Faults:

Needed new water pump, thermostat, thermostat housing, still leaks radiator fluid, oil, power steering fluid Also found oil residues in radiator overflow Just stopped working on me yesterday on the way to a job interview. Thinking of taking it to a junkyard.

General Comments:

Great little car. I bought it as a beater and have not been let down. Ex-wife nearly ran it out of gas and now acts up at times (clogged filters, intakes, or sending unit) dash is cracked and paint is peeling, but still had zip.

1990 Geo Storm GSi Standard from North America

Summary:

Fantastic Bargain

Faults:

The alternator went out and the driver side washing fluid no longer works. To be expected for a vehicle 15 yrs old with over 200K miles. Seats are very worn from previous owner and the dash is cracked, I put a dash cover over it.

The car was left outside, so it could use a paint job.

General Comments:

I really could not be more pleased. The car is dependable, easy to drive, cheap to maintain and for it's age really looks pretty good, the style is similar to new cars today. It handles well. It needs some cosmetic fixing up, but I could not ask for anything so dependable mechanically for what I paid!

1990 Geo Storm GSi from North America

Summary:

Old rust bucket

Faults:

Something was wrong with the transmission shortly after I got it. It was fixed under warranty, but it still needed work.

40,000 Miles I needed a new starter.

50,000 Miles the car was starting to rust really bad it didn't look great anymore.

General Comments:

Overall this was my first car I had to get back and forth to college and work. I really got great gas mileage.

The downside was that I considered this car to be a two seater even though it was a bench seat in the back, but tall people couldn't ride.

I now have a 2002 Nissan Altima so I've moved on up.
