2000 GMC Jimmy SLE from North America

Summary:

GM did not put this car together very well

Faults:

I drove this car from South Dakota to California, it was fine.

So far I have had to replace all the rotors.

Next I replaced the shocks, along with the radiator hose.

The next weekend I was back in the shop, my check engine light came on. 2 of the 4 O2 sensors went bad. Costly fix. It ran fine for 1 day and my check engine light came on again. I believe it's the other 2 sensors.

I bought this from my friend for 1200 dollars. I thought I was getting a good deal. Wrong, he babies his cars, but spent 1300 dollars in repairs himself.

So far I have spent close to 4000 dollars on repairs in the 3 weeks since being in California. I love the car, but it is a giant money pit.

I should have gotten rid of it earlier, only had it for a month. Very costly vehicle to maintain. I will never buy another GM product again.

2000 GMC Jimmy SLT 4.3L from North America

Summary:

High versatility, poor reliability

Faults:

Well, everything seemed good when I got the truck in Oct.08, took it for a short test drive, spent $4000 and was happy with the deal.

On my way home, the check engine light turned on on the highway, and the truck was shaking and I figured it was the tires because the truck had been sitting for a few months. Got off the highway at my exit and stopped at a light, when taking off from the light, it shifted hard all the way home. After turning it off and starting it again, the shifting returned to normal. The hard shifting returns at random after highway trips.

I replaced the tires and still had the highway shaking, so I had them rebalanced - twice, and the tire shop suggested it may be a mechanical problem.

New battery.

My intake gasket suddenly blew while driving, that was a big job.

Gas gage stays at full and jumps all over, I use the trip computer to calculate fuel usage.

Door hinges are squeaky and loose.

Front end clunking, loose steering, water pump leaks, oil cooler lines leak.

AC stopped working.

Rear wiper sprayer and defrost don't work.

Heated seats light up but don't work.

Motor mount just broke.

I'm not spending money on anything until something goes that affects the ability to drive the thing, so I'll just drive till parts fall off, then replace them.

General Comments:

Well I have a lot of complaints about the vehicle and it needs quite a few repairs, but has only left me stranded once when the intake gasket blew.

Other than those problems, I enjoy driving the truck. I like the many features that this fully loaded model has. Pretty decent off road ability for a small truck, very good in snow.

Poor fuel mileage. Creaky interior panels.

I purchase my 2001 Jimmy in September 2000 and still have it despite the problems. It has and always has had a highway shimmy. I have replaced tires, wheels aligned, balanced and rear end spider gears? Just too short of a wheel base. I have 213000 and still drive it today. Mine is a two door sport model. Back seat never used. Black five speed, V6 still gets it. Gas gauge is all over the place. I use the trip odometer, but has been overall reliable.

2000 GMC Jimmy SLT 4.3L V6 from North America

Summary:

This is a very capable but unreliable vehicle

Faults:

Remote oil filter lines replaced at 35000 & 60000 miles due to oil leaks.

Ball joints (Upper and Lower) replaced at 40000 miles due to suspension noise and steering vibration.

Alternator replaced at 55000 miles due to noisy bearing.

Power steering pump replaced at 60000 miles due to power steering fluid leak.

Under hood wiring for A/C repaired at 62000 miles due to a faulty connector.

Transmission replaced at 80000 miles due to major internal failure - e. g loud "bang" then no second gear and loud grinding noises.

General Comments:

Despite all the expensive things that have gone wrong with this vehicle, I still enjoy driving it.

It is comfortable and handles well, and its smaller size, compared to many other truck-based sport utility vehicles, makes it easier to park.
