2001 Honda Civic DX-G 1.7 from North America

Summary:

Never again

Faults:

Front Struts had to be changed 3 times.

Panel behind back seat rattle.

Sway Bar bushing had to be replaced.

Rack & Pinion had to be replaced.

Main computer had to be replaced.

There is still a rattle in the front end after all this work!

General Comments:

If you are in the market for a Honda Civic stay away from the 2001 model.

I'm very disappointed in my Civic and I really don't think I will be buying another one. The overall quality is really not what it used to be.

2001 Honda Civic EX 1.7 from North America

Summary:

Reliable running, pesky problems

Faults:

My SRS light has come on three times now.

The panel behind the back seat rattled.

General Comments:

I have been very pleased with my car so far, on almost every aspect.

The only thing that really bothers me, is that the SRS light keeps coming on. The dealership told me it was because of the sensors in my passenger seat (for the side airbags), if they are 'bothered' at all, the SRS light turns on. Bothered meaning, if someone is sitting in the passenger seat and leans toward the window, the SRS light turns on...

I've had the dealership shut off my SRS light twice, although it keeps coming back on. It is currently on because I set some books on the passenger seat.

If anyone else has had this problem, please let me know tonya_ernst@hotmail.com.

The panel behind my back seat rattled when the stereo was on. This was when my car was still under warranty. The dealership 'fixed' it by putting a foam pad under the panel, so it will not move.

Otherwise, I have really liked my car. I'm hoping I don't have the shocks/strut problems, that many other 2001 civics have had.

2001 Honda Civic Si 1.7L from North America

Summary:

A great car with terrible handling

Faults:

Just about everything in the interior rattles. The fixes are only temporary; all of the rattles have come back numerous times.

Drivers side seat is rocking back and forth.

Just found out the struts are bleeding and my strut mounts are toast.

General Comments:

Overall the Civic is a decent car: the gas mileage is excellent (700km per tank), it's comfortable, fairly reliable and it has a flawless engine.

Negatives: the worst handling in it's class (drive any stretch of highway and bounce all the way home). Hideous stock tires.

The Honda dealer has been superb! A 10 all the way!

As an owner of an '01 SI I disagree a lot with your review.

The interior in my car is quite comfortable and has no rattles or rocking seat.

I will agree to the suspension part, as I find it takes the bumps quite hard. I have kept my car in great condition, but cannot get 700 km out of a tank of gas.

The engine is easy to access and overall it's a great ride.

Also the accessories are endless and one can really individulize their ride to their own taste.

It's a shame you don't get the Civic Type-R in the US! 200BHP! 0-60 mph in 6.6 seconds!Blistering Performance and handling!

2001 Honda Civic DX 1.7 from North America

Summary:

Practical Reliable Economy Car

Faults:

Front struts have been replaced 3 times as of this month. The 1st at 24,000 Kilometres, the 2nd at 48,000 and this upcoming month at 63,000.

The clutch had also been squeaking horribly since the 2nd month I had it, after 2 years of lubing it excessively I finally found a dealership who would put the effort into replacing it at 48,000 Kilometres.

Factory tires will only last 75,000 at maximum. I suggesting upgrading the Michelin Harmony's.

Factory tires will only l.

General Comments:

This car has been a solid purchase. It handles nicely and has just enough power - for a 1.7 - can't complain. It's a quiet ride. Great roomy interior with the 'hump' on the floor in the back removed its excellent for leg room.
