2002 Honda Civic LX 1.7 from North America

Summary:

This car is a great value and very reliable

General Comments:

I bought my civic as a cheap alternative on gas, I am very impressed with the mileage I get. In normal city driving I get 29 mpg and approximately highway I've gotten as good as 36 mpg.

For the size engine it is surprisingly quick, until you get to higher speeds, but I have problems with highway passing.

The cabin isn't as comfortable as it could be. The back seat is kind of cramped except for children, and the driver seat is the only one with a arm rest.

2002 Honda Civic SE Sport 1.6 VTec from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Reliability is the key in this car

Faults:

After purchasing the car, I noticed on long motorway journeys there was a noise coming from the passenger side like a whistling sound. I took to a dealer, was told it was normal, then I drove it through a car wash and noticed water coming through.

Got it repaired after waiting 1 week for a seal to come in, then noticed they fitted it on the wrong side. I went back and another week went by.

Rattles from the windows, but I have noticed this from other Civics as well.

Door panels and (outside) door hinges vibrate too much when music is at 20, making the car seem 10 years old.

A musty smell comes through the car when the air recycle button is active; not pleasant when going through high carbon monoxide tunnels; would honestly prefer that smell.

The leather interior does make the car more desirable, but if the radio is off, noise creaks will sound quite annoying. Fixed myself with WD40.

General Comments:

For a 1.6 SOHC (single over head cam) it's very smooth to drive, although the gears can seem stiff at times when the engine is cold.

The clutch is very soft, not ideal for me, but other people who have driven the car prefer this.

No engine problems to date.

Considerable amount of noise from the tyres on normal roads, and not the most quiet engines when in high gears. 3000rpm from a passenger perspective sounds like you're doing 5500rpm.

One good thing is that when VTEC kicks in, the engine changes tone, forming a whirling sound overtaking similar specification cars or higher, such as a BMW 318, Golf 1.6 fsi, and more.

Whether I drive this car hard, hitting 6500rpm, or hitting 3000rpm, I have the reassurance that when it comes to the next day, the engine will pur on start.

2002 Honda Civic Vti-Oriel 1.6VTec from Pakistan

Summary:

I would love to buy another one of these!

Faults:

When we got the car, it was a few niggles here and there... Nothing major.

But we soon found out that the heater radiator was punctured badly, had to replace the whole thing.

One of the back doors creates a little bit of noise, but too much.

General Comments:

Superb driver's car, Excellent acceleration and handling, nice interior and appealing look.

I would recommend it to anyone who is considering of buying a reasonably priced old car. One of the best of it's class.

Giving it 1/10 in reliability, only because the water pump went bad in 4 years! What if the engine blew up, therefore -20/10 indeed.

2002 Honda Civic Executive SE 1.6 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Reliable, efficient, just a dull ride let's it down

General Comments:

Personally I find the looks a bit rubbish, but I bought the car for reliability and it hasn't put a step wrong!

Excellent value for money.

Slightly woolly handling, lack of response from the steering. Perky 1.6 Petrol engine though.

Great executive features, such as heated seats and mirrors; loads of room, and fantastic interior for the dosh.

I find the 2002 Civic Executive is comfortable and spacious, loads of leg room both front and rear, with a large boot.

Leather seats that can be heated is a boon, off the floor gear stick gives loads more room in the front, and the excellent built in Sat. Navigation is a great asset. This particular Honda is ideal for comfort, reliability and an economical drive. Just one draw back is the fact this is quite a heavy car, larger than the normal hatchbacks, so there is a need to put the foot down as with a 1600 engine is rather slow pulling away.
