2000 Hyundai Elantra GL 2.5 from North America

Summary:

I like my car

Faults:

I had every window cable replaced through warranty. My right passenger window barely works... probably will be next after the two rear windows just started to fall as I went over some bumpy roads. Argh! I also have an issue where the car revs from 1-2 rpms when I'm stopped. I took it to the dealership, but they say nothing is wrong?

General Comments:

Good.

2000 Hyundai Elantra GLS Wagon 2.0 from North America

Summary:

Good except for the windows

Faults:

I have had problems with window regulators on both my 2004 Accent and my 2000 Elantra. Hyundai is liable and the government here should STOP all Hyundai imports until they fix these things.

Obvious manufacturers defect, unsafe to drive. The current window problem is on the passenger rear side, which has NEVER been opened since I bought the car in 2000. No excuse for a brand new unused component to fail without being operated at all.

Write your legislators to get on our agencies to deal with them, and make sure you cost them LOTS of business.

Picketing of all Hyundai dealerships nationwide would be a good way for everyone involved to advertise the issue, get media coverage, lots of negative press will have an effect.

General Comments:

The car is fine in every other way, but Hyundai must take responsibility for this problem. Punish them with no sales, interfere with current sales efforts at the dealership. GET PRESS!!!

I think I want to buy a used 2000 Elantra GLS, and it's already had one window (driver side) replaced, and now needs the rear passenger side replaced. I called the dealership near me, and they gave me a quote of 240 for the entire kit, and 147 for labor. I asked where an official complaint needs to be made, and they gave me this number: 1 800 633 5151, and I chose the recall option to see if any recall was issued. The employee said official complaints need to be made in order for Hyundai to be made aware of the issue, but no recall has been currently issued. I hope all these people aren't just verbally complaining to the guy at the dealership, because I'm pretty sure they won't take the time to officially report the problem.

2000 Hyundai Elantra GLS 2.0L from North America

Summary:

Overall good car

Faults:

1st experience with dealer warranty repair, they tried to lie about what was wrong. Took them to court and got a full refund for unneeded repairs. Have not been back!

I have suffered from the window regulator troubles and broken white tabs on window. Resorted to buying regulators from ebay and getting OEM parts for 1/3 the price from dealer, they are in OEM box!

General Comments:

Overall a good reliable car.

They should have fixed the window regulator problem years ago. Bad engineering!

Transmission breaks every other week.

2000 Hyundai Elantra GLS Wagon 2.0 from North America

Summary:

Ok car, minimal maintenance, good value

Faults:

One window switch failed, Dealer did replace under warranty. One window switch failed off warranty; independent repair shop fixed for about $125 US.

A squeak in the steering column has plagued us since the first oil change. Dealer said to make a two day appointment for the change out. We never found time, but just before the 5 year 50,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty ran out, we made the appointment. Dealer postponed our service appointment because they were having a sale and had too many new cars in line for dealer prep.

Two weeks later, when we came in for the postponed appointment, the dealer claimed the car was no longer under warranty. Hyundai USA was of little or NO help. We still have a squeak in the steering column 3 years later.

Now we have a wheel bearing going. Looking for reference on "Elantra Wheel Bearing" and found this site.

General Comments:

We aren't raving about the car, BUT for what we paid it has been a very good value. Sure there are better cars for twice the $$, but are they really twice as good??
