2000 Hyundai Elantra GLS 2.0 L from North America

Summary:

A reliable car at an affordable price

Faults:

I have not had any major problems.

General Comments:

The only reason I gave an 8 out of 10 for comfort is due to the ride still being a bit rough. The car handles great though, and so far I have not had any problems. I drove the car from Chicago to Houston last winter, and have driven the car in all types of weather (rain, sleet, snow, etc) with no handling problems.

The cabin is roomy considering this is a small car, and the trunk space is huge. You can even expand the trunk space by folding down the back seats.

I get roughly 25-30 miles per gallon in the city, and get about 30-35 miles per gallon on the highway, so this is a very economical car.

Finally, I get a lot of comments about how great the car looks. It has a very unique style, and is not a common car on the road.

2000 Hyundai Elantra GLS 2.0 from North America

Summary:

A good car

Faults:

Engine stalled every once in a while when the car had about 3,000 miles on it due to a defective fuel injector.

Cigarette lighter was defective and it was not working.

General Comments:

This is a very affordable and reliable car. The 5-year bumper-to-bumper warranty is a great deal. It also comes loaded with options available only in the top versions of the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla.

I do a lot of travelling with my Elantra and the car is very quick (with its 140 hp). However, the transmission is not very resposive and the car oversteers. Wind noise is loud and annoying, especially on long trips.

The interior is large and looks nice but it features cheap low quality materials.

It is a great car for the price, but it is still far from being a Honda or Toyota.

2000 Hyundai Elantra GLS 2.0 16v DOHC from North America

Summary:

A good disposable car

Faults:

The car came with some minor factory problems. The cigarette lighter was not working and the plastic frame surrounding the center area of the dashboard was loose, causing the whole thing to vibrate (making an annoying noise) when the car was in movement. The fuel pump broke 2 months after I purchased the car.

General Comments:

All the defects were fixed under the factory warranty. The service at the Hyundai dealer, however, is horrible. They never have replacement parts available and they usually take a long time (several weeks) to get them. I had to wait for months only to have the cigarette lighter replaced.

Besides that the car has performed really well and I am happy with it.

What else can I expect from a Hyundai... it's not a Honda anyway...

2000 Hyundai Elantra GLSi 1.5 from Belgium

Summary:

I am really pleased with this car

Faults:

Nothing and I hope it stays like that.

General Comments:

I bought this car in January when my Mondeo went dead. I needed fast a new (and not too expensive) car because I drive about 70km every day. At first I was not sure about this Hyundai, but now I have to say that I'm really pleased with it. It's a comfortable car to drive with, I've had no problems so far and the consumption (7 liters) is not too much.

2000 Hyundai Elantra GLS from North America

Summary:

The warranty's great, too bad I have to use it every other week

Faults:

1) Transmission gasket leak all over my driveway, had to have the car towed - 14,000.

2) New transmission - jumpy - 15,000.

3) Check engine light came on - new oxygen sensor - 14,000.

4) Check engine light comes on only when scheduled for an appointment - another new oxygen sensor - 18,000.

General Comments:

I will never buy a Hyundai product again. My car should not have to be in the shop 15 days or more when I have only had it for less than a year!!!

I feel the same way as the consumer who wrote this complaint. I have the same model car and I am at 18,900. I have brought it in complaining of hesitation in the engine and my lights dimming when you turn on the AC. They said it was nothing, now my car is dying when I come to a complete stop and my tachometer is jumping from 1 to 0 when it is idled. When I explained this to the tech he informs me that if my car's in the shop for more than a day, I still cannot receive a rent or loan car.

I think their service is horrible.
