1992 Jeep Cherokee Limited from North America - Comments

"The toughest SUV on the road - bar none - let's see any of those big guys out-perform it off-road!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I recently replaced front brakes pads.

Changed headlights, a couple of heater hoses, valve cover gasket.

General comments?

I paid a pretty price for my '92 Cherokee Limited 1 year ago, but so far it has been worth every penny. She was in tip top shape then (still is), everything works, and the paint job still looks like new. She had only 79000 miles on her and has proven to be fast and very reliable. She handles very well... accepts all challenges on the road, and wins most. This is largely due to an awesome overdrive, which makes her leap forward like a racehorse.

Her 10 year old straight 6, 4.0 Liter engine is pretty quiet and runs like a dream. I had the engine diagnosed on a Pep Boys computer, and they said it was like new... up to factory specs, and no problems. Pretty awesome for a 10 year old vehicle!

The interior - light tan leather - though a little on the close side if you're tall, makes up in comfort what it lacks in room. Only problem is there's really no place to install anything up front! I added a booming stereo system, had to use up the trunk, but am unable to hide the equalizer from vandals.

Overall, this is a great car, my second, even though I have driven others. More comfortable than Ford Explorer, smoother handling than Chevy Blazer, more economical than Mitsubishi Montero, better view that any little car; I even enjoyed driving it more than Pontiac Firebird.

Regular maintenance and TLC will make this car last forever... it's the toughest little SUV on the road. Lotsa imitators, but the Cherokee has earned its stripes and deserves every one of them.

Overdrive won't make your Jeep "leap forward like a racehorse" it is the tallest gear you have... but it is great for highway gas mileage. At 70 MPH the engine only turns 2250 rpm.
