2001 jeep Cherokee Laredo.
18,000 miles and engine lights has come on as well as oil gauge needle all the way on the right side, oil changed faithfully ever 3000 miles since purchase. dealership won't even suggest what might be the problem. In an emergency as this I would think the dealer would make an exception versus making an appointment several days away.
I am very dissatisfied with customer service and if there is a major problem with this car after spending $25,000 I will start a recall champaign. If anyone
has experienced the same problem with engine malfuction light coming on and staying on, please let me know.
What problems has consumers had with the 2001 Grand Cherokee jeep Laredo.
Only good thing is spare tire was placed out of the way.
I too have had the "check engine" light come on numerous times. On my last visit to the dealer, a mechanic spent considerable time tracing it to a split in a vacuum hose. He said it appeared this was done at installation/assembly. Since replacing the vacuum hose (5K miles ago) the light has not returned so I assume his diagnosis was correct. I have had 14 warranty claims on my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD, and all have been related to either poor quality parts (e.g., brakes) or improper assembly.
Driver seat started "rocking" so I looked under the seat and saw that the metal had actually broken around the bolt that attached the seat to the frame that is attached to the floor. The bolt, nut and washer are still in place only now they just hold the piece of metal that used to be a part of the seat's frame. Happened at around 19,000 miles - should have lasted for the life of the car! Looking to see if anyone else has had a similar problem. Will be interesting to hear what dealer has to say.
Had similar problem with rotors at 15,000 miles - had them turned down and put on new pads and shimmying went away.
2000 Grand Jeep Cherokee.
I have the Same problem the oil meter goes all the way up and as far as for the the engine light I got it too. Is there something wrong that the company did? what can I do? please help I'm spending a lot of money on trying to figure out what is wrong with this.
After I got the rotors replaced, on guarantee, the effect of shaking steering wheel was gone.
Garage people said it was a bad steel and got too hot and the rotors bent so that there was no parallel surfaces for the brakes, and hence the shaking of the steering wheel when pressing on the brakes on high speeds.
I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. I have had nothing but problems with this car. I bet its been in the shop 12+ times. Here is a list of problems I have had...
Rotors replaced or resurfaced 3x
transmission worked on
engine light 4+x (I ignore it now-it comes and goes)
weather striping around windshield came off at 60mph
glove box handle broken
All this with 58k miles. I bought it new and would not consider buying another. I tried to get a copy of every appointment/work order on my Jeep to see if I qualified for the lemon law, but the dealer would not give me any copies. Always keep your work orders. I can't wait until its paid for.
I have a jeep Currently I have had the whole brake system replaced 5 times in 3 year.
I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee sport and when it was 3 mos old with 18,000 miles I had to get the engine replaced. A year later I'm dealing with the check engine light..UGH!!
I bought a used 2001 GC laredo, and after I had it for about 3 weeks, I noticed a whinning noise comming from the front wheels, replaced brake pads.. was OK for about 2 weeks and then started having vibrating in steering.. and noises like crazy when I brake.. the auto had 63k miles and only had a 30 day warranty on it.. I am stuck.. being a person who had some negative credit in the past makes me very vulnerable to these types of problems.. no warranty..no money.. I wish I had read some of these comments earlier, has bad luck would have it..just today the malfunction light came on and now it is really difficult to get started. I quess it is really true to the saying "Live and Learn"
This is in reply to the person with the seat rocking and metal breaking.. (yes I know I took a while :) ) this has happened with our Jeep Grand Cherokee 2001, but it is three bolts. Has anyone had this problem and have the dealers done anything about it?
Thanks in advance.
I recently purchased a used 2001 JGCL from a dealer and have had soooo many problems. I am not having any luck repairing the thing. I am disabled and on a limited income and THOUGHT I was purchasing a quality used vehicle and am now stuck with the vehicle. I get the impression that the various repairs that I have been complaining about where already known, i.e. repeat transmission problems, and that I am just getting the runaround by both the dealer and the Jeep repair shop. Please, if anyone out there can help, please contact me.
I bought a 2001 Grand Jeep Cherokee Limited V8 one year ago and it's been in the shop twice (and now needs to go back for several small repairs). The power motor for the driver's side window was replaced ($350), and after one very brief 4x4 foray in Utah the power steering had to be replaced ($550). Luckily I haven't had anything major go wrong with it yet, but I'm not confident that it won't happen and looking to trade it in for a Honda even though I'll be upside down. I originally bought this for a multi-use vehicle, but have now decided I can't afford . This was the American car industries last chance to prove itself with me and I'm very disappointed.
2001 Jeep CG Laredo: Looking at the comments above, several of you guys mentioned you have had problems with transmissions. My Transmission, is starting to slip, only really when I come to a complete stop and take off, it seems not to catch gear. If anyone could tell about any experiences they have had with sort of problem, please let me know.
To the guy who had the power window go out. I have a 2001 JGC Laredo and both front power windows went out on me over the last two years. Luckily the driver side went out a week or two before it started raining. Anyways, my advise for anyone who has their window go out is to buy a rebuilt power window regulator and replace it yourself. I am no mechanic, but it's not that hard and can be done in less than an hour. I bought my rebuilt ones for $50-70. This is a known problem with the jeep and whoever is rebuilding these regulators is making a killing on ebay.
Just my 2 cents...
I recently bought a Grand Cherokee Laredo, I have also noticed that the bolt has torn out of the driver's seat base. The dealer/jeep has not issued a technical bulletin or a recall for this issue (that I could find). The dealer offered to sell me a seat $$$. I am going to repair the seat myself by welding in a patch (very tricky and not recommended for the novice) but no one seems to want to hear about this problem. My warranty company won't cover it, so I am going to demand a transmission rebuild to get my money's worth (it bucks without shifting at/near red-line in when accelerating hard). My driver's power mirror does not work either. It's a shame, I have always liked jeeps, I start driving my old 77 scout again, probably will outlast my 2001 jeep.
My drivers seat on a 2000 Grand Cherokee Laredo also started rocking and I too discovered the metal had actually torn away from around the mounting bolt under the seat. Has anyone had luck with a dealer in fixing this problem?
