1999 Jeep Wrangler SE from North America

Summary:

It's a Jeep thing, Become a part of it!

Faults:

I installed a Sony stereo unit into the dash of the car which cost me about $200 because my stereo was horrible. Everything was working great until I tried to play a CD and it skipped all of the time. I figured it was the unit, but it turned out to be the car! Jeeps are horrible for putting CD players in. If you get one that is after market make sure that it is installed correctly and that it is skip-proof. All of my efforts to make my sound system better backfired by skipping Cd's.

General Comments:

I love my Jeep!!

It is most certainly a Jeep thing.

It's great for a fun summer car. When I put the top down it just puts me in such a good mood on a nice sunny day.

Not very good for security reasons. I can open my center console with a coin! Not even the key. So if you buy a Jeep Wrangler make sure that you are prepared to not keep anything valuable in your car, or invest in a secure lock box.

You will get addicted to your car if you own one. It is truly a cult of Jeep owners and we stick together! Be sure to wave to one another because it's the Jeep thing.

1999 Jeep Wrangler Sport 4.0 from North America

Summary:

Jeep for Life

Faults:

Broken Manifold: The manifold had split in two at around 80,000. Apparently this is common in jeeps.

Mirror: Black paint flaking off... easy fix with stainless mirrors or touch up paint.

3 Broken Headlights: Easy Fix.

Broken Driver side Front Hub: I broke the hub after off roading the vehicle. It was drivable, but made a loud rattling noise till it was replaced.

Replaced Front and Back tires and Brakes. (who doesn't?)

Instrument Panel Short: The instrument panel goes dead and then comes back after either 1.) Hitting the dash with my hand. 2.) Going over a large bump. Ironicly #2 made it go out as well. Was fixed by dealer.

Broken Radio Antenna: Cause by hanging an american flag from the antenna. My fault. Easy and Cheap fix though.

Driver and Passenger side Seat Fabric Cracking: My own fault for not covering it with something.

General Comments:

First off I do off road my Jeep. I also use it as my primary vehicle. I LOVE my Jeep. I dreamed of owning a Jeep since I was a little boy and will probably be a life long jeep driver.

It rides really rough and you can feel everything in the road, but when you're off roading that doesn't matter.

I've driven the Alaska Highway 2wice with it. Over 2600 miles 1 way. Never having a problem either time.

Jeeps are meant to be abused and used. Have fun!!

At least I know I am not alone. On my 99 Sport, my mirrors are also losing paint and my instrument panel goes out, and I have to use my fist to fix it also.

1999 Jeep Wrangler Sport 4.0L I6 from North America

Summary:

There is only ONE :)

Faults:

I had my central microprocessor blew up about 3 months after buying my wrangler. It happened because I left my jeep open (covers down) at night and it rained heavily that night. The microprocessor was replaced by Jeep and since then I have not had any major problems. I had to replace my brake pads and tires at 75000 miles, which I guess is not bad.

Apart from these, I am perfectly happy with my Jeep.

General Comments:

I think one should buy a wrangler only if one likes it. One should not buy it like it is another car. Just keep following your service schedule and you will be happy with your Wrangler as I am. I have had no problems with it on highways, off-roads (it actually performs better on off-roads), during snow, heavy rains or flooding. It seems that wranglers can really go any where!

Well as far as comfort is concerned, I think that it has exceeded by expectations (considering that wrangler is not a luxury SUV or a car).
