"I read somewhere that due to a fight with the steel unions in the mid-'70s, Detroit decided to buy Japanese steel, which was of inferior quality".

I don't think this is true, as the unions' mafia overlords (who drive big luxoboats) wouldn't allow for such a thing.

The rust just forms near the vinyl top because that's the main area that the workers never rustproofed.

What brand of shocks are you using that you have had to replace them three times?

8th Apr 2018, 23:47

Probably a brand name made in China.

10th Apr 2018, 23:40

Maybe go with Bilsteins.

12th May 2018, 17:23

Go with OEM Motocraft, they give you the traditional soft ride quality.

Your prediction made nine years ago, regarding gas prices, has now, sadly, come true. And things will never, ever, get better without a major change at the top political levels. Unfortunately, the ninnies who voted in the current administration (along with their dead fellow travelers) have, unbelievably, not wised up (the live ones, anyway) so they are all too willing to repeat their mistakes... to the detriment of us all.

17th May 2022, 20:25

The current admin has nothing to do with it. Both political parties are corrupted by significant campaign money by oil and gas companies. They will continue to assure those companies take in record profits.

18th May 2022, 03:03

Only 4.46 gallon. Imagine paying over $6.00 a gallon in California.

18th May 2022, 19:20

Uh huh. That's why the price per gallon under the previous administration never exceeded $2.80 a gallon even long before anyone had ever heard of "covid".

And what is the pipeline-closing current administration's response to complaints about high gas prices? "It's all Putin's fault; and, you should all be buying and driving electric cars anyhow, so shut up and go away, we're not gonna do anything about it."

18th May 2022, 21:58

It's currently up to the equivalent of US$8.51/gal here in New Zealand, up from US$7.55/gal just 3 weeks ago. That's for 98 RON unleaded premium. Still very cheap in America.

18th May 2022, 22:30

If you make 50% more in California compared to doing the same job somewhere else, which is not uncommon, that argument doesn’t really make sense.

19th May 2022, 21:37

Did you credit Obama in 2008 & 2009 when gas prices fell way below the prices of the previous administration? I’m guessing not. Comparing 2020 prices when oil companies literally had to pay people to accept deliveries of oil futures, which caused the prices to go into the tank, and saying Trump deserves credit there and now Biden all the blame shows a great misunderstanding.

20th May 2022, 13:13

If you make 100% more than you do in California it's even better. Retire sooner, nice climate many areas, nicer home, more cars. Many are making the exodus out of that state.

21st May 2022, 00:10

You forgot; natural disasters such as earthquakes and wild brush fires, extreme high levels of smog, water droughts and atrocious traffic jams. Just to mention a few.

22nd May 2022, 05:54

You do realize 95% of the land in California is actually quite rural and the complete opposite of what you said, right? Spoken like a true person who has not been there.

22nd May 2022, 19:49

My son lives in Berkeley. I’m aware.

23rd May 2022, 00:39

What does that have to do with anything? Outside of a gridlock problem, the "rural" areas are still prone to have the rest of the problems mentioned. Anytime, anywhere. And yes, been out there before.

23rd Jun 2022, 14:54

And YOU show a great misunderstanding of how low oil and gas prices are NOT in the best interest of the current greenie-weenie administration. With low gas prices comes less interest in buying and driving the electric cars they want to force us into. We are expected to undergo sacrifices to address "climate change" or whatever the term they want to use. Meanwhile, countries like China and India can continue merrily polluting away because, you know, it would be "unfair" to hold them to the same standards. Expecting them to voluntarily take action to reduce carbon emissions (with little or no consequences for NOT doing it) is the definition of naivete.

23rd Jun 2022, 16:56

The big green energy plan.

23rd Jun 2022, 17:15

Not sure what this has to do with a Town Car. In all seriousness this political stuff should be discussed elsewhere.

23rd Jun 2022, 19:14

LOL quite the conspiracy theory. You think they’re intentionally hiking gas prices (and will pay for it in upcoming elections) to encourage people to buy electric instead? I’ve heard it all now.

24th Jun 2022, 02:05

Don't worry about China and India. They don't have to voluntarily cut back on pollution. Circumstance will give way to forcible compliance - China can, and does, force its citizens to do what it wants. They used to nail the doors of COVID-positive households shut to keep them from getting out. Both China and India have cities that are literally choking from smog, and they cannot hide anymore behind even air conditioned luxury high-rise apartments for those who can afford. A lot of electric cars are now being built and sold in China, mostly by companies we have not even heard of.

24th Jun 2022, 20:11

Their favorite gas car has been Buick.

30th Jun 2022, 16:24

So, you've "heard it all now"?

Care to explain why one of the first things Biden did after (mis)taking office was to shut down the pipeline? If you've heard it all then you should be able to provide an answer.

1st Jul 2022, 19:11

"(mis) taking" I love it! Of course they always dream up excuses by saying even if the pipeline wasn't shut down that it wouldn't have made a difference on current gas prices. Finally a thread where I agree with you.

1st Jul 2022, 23:07

Can we please keep this to a car review site. The Biden (mis)taking office comment doesn’t belong here. You will likely remove this comment, but once again your credibility comes into question as a legitimate car review site

Unfortunately I'm going to lock this thread. It's descending into politics and insults at great speed. I probably should have done this sooner, but I do try to limit such interventions as much as possible (the site is supposed to be the views of the car owning public, not myself).
