To those Mazda Millenia owners with the mystery "check engine" light on, I had this problem in my L model Millenia for 3 years before I fixed it myself for the price of a can of carb cleaner. If your ODBC-2 diagnostic code is related to the EGR, this could be your solution too. I ran my car on cheap regular gas for years, which caused gummy residue to build up on the throttle butterfly valve and in the throttle body, and it clogged 2 small holes in the base of the throttle body, which are part of the EGR system. Go ahead and remove your throttle body and clean it out thoroughly, and make sure all the small internal holes are clear of gunk... put it back on and you're good to go. I now have 167,000 miles on my '96 millie and it runs like new.

I'm so glad that I ended up reading everyone's comments on this Mazda. I also own a Mazda Millenia 2002 with a 2.5 lit.

At first I was concerned because I bought it with the check engine sign on with 145k. Of course I did my tune-ups right away and made the car as fresh as possible. I know it's a good thing to keep the car up-2-date just like the factory intended it to be; however, I like everything about that car so I had to turn it in my style. I've got it now with some 20" rims "status God father", and trust me, I tried to get some for my friends, but I couldn't because they're too expensive now. Brand new tires that give that Millenia a whole new look. You won't even know if that car is a Mazda Millenia. I wish I could paste some pics to just show you what I mean. But then again the look is nothing when it comes to this car, the feeling is when you're passing another car.

Okay true story !I'm in college at BC Ft. Lauderdale Florida, I was on my way to school to take my final before the summer break, since I was up late studying the night before, therefore the next day I was dead late. I normally spend like 45mn to get to my school, but that day I had about 15mn to get to class to take my final. It was crazy!

First I remember praying God not to let me late for that test and hoping the car would work at its best performance, prior to the time since I've owned it. From the time that I left my place I was down to 10mn and was in the middle of traffic in no time. I tried to scape as many cars as possible and finally I was down with 5mn left on the count down while waiting for a red light. At that time I was talking to the car saying "we're going to make it baby, just hold on for a nice 3mn". On my right shoulder was a brand new Ford Focus with shaded window that pulled smoothly right beside me. To myself, I was saying "I'll smoke that Ford just before he passes that light, cuz 100ft away he has to merge behind me". Like I said, I was gone by the time the green came on. To my surprise that Ford Focus merged and quickly accelerated right on my tail. Quickly checked my mirrors and saw that Ford wanted something else despite smoking him. I then sent that Mazda on hold for like 10sec and let it go, for a distance of approximately 200ft I saw two very bright lights "blue and red" flashing like crazy coming behind me with such momentum. I couldn't believe that I just smoked a police car. They pulled me over, the driver making comments while staying like 20ft away from my trunk and another one draw his gun at me while protecting himself with his passenger. I tried to get out and explain, but both of them were screaming at me, saying get back in the car and stick your hand out of the window. I managed slowly, and followed by their comments and out of the Mazda. they checked my tag, insurance, licence and everything else before they're ask me to explain what just happened... Therefore; I showed them my school ID and explained the situation. I watched the other officer locked his gun away and grabbed something from his car and swallow it with a bottle of water. Then the driver said "you could have been in big trouble Buddy, you know I had to go beyond 75 on a 45 zone for to keep up with you... I had a feeling you had something else going there for a moment" I was like "I thought you were probably also late for your finals, in fact you were trying to make it on time just like me... I really am sorry" Then he said" what is your session?", "9:30" I replied. He check his watch and laugh..." you do realize that its 10:12 right?"..." you better get going if you still want to pass that test! Hey... Nice car by the way" I was like " thanks a lot!"

I got back on the car and pulled right back in traffic, my hands, legs and everything was shaking. I got to the student parking lot, I couldn't even step out by the time I checked the clock, it was already 45 after 10. Of course I had to reschedule to take the test another day.

Every now and then I remember some cheerful memory of that Mazda. But the thing that brings me to this site today is the fact that even though I love that car so much, I have to ask for help and advise from the media to tell me what to do... That 2002 Mazda Millenia with 154k cost me a lot of money to keep it fresh as it is today.. They hate for my car! Can anybody actually believe that. Every time I go somewhere, its either my window is broken, my tires missing spots, eggs all over my windshield, threats written all over my car. I have moved from where I used to live and now living in a place where there is 24hrs security. Last Monday at my girl's school they tried to steal the car, they broke the window again, but the alarm scared them off, but today my girl took the car to work and she got robbed. Now they have the car key, my apartment's key, my girl's licence, social and credit cards. The worst thing I couldn't even get any service since it's Sunday. Now the car is by itself locked at the job parking lot with a broken window. I'm just hoping that they don't come back for it. So I really need help!!! I spend so much on that car, now even if I order a new key, my mind still won't be at peace... Is there anyway that I can change the entire format of the ignition or should I just give up on the car and give it away for whatever price they want for it before the stole it from me... Please reply ASAP... Jeanino23@aim.com Thanks...

By the way, the car was built to be admired and performed at its best. Don't let that stop you from getting any Mazda Millenia or any model whatsoever.. Take it from me, I love the car, but I'm just a simple college kid paying for my own tuition, so my perspective might be different from yours. Thanks again to the Mazda factory for creating such cars... Much love!

Well, I guess I've just been extremely blessed!! I own a 2001 Millenia. All I've ever had to do was change the oil every 3k miles and rotate the tires every 6k miles.

That's my story! I'd buy another one in a heart beat!
