1989 Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.6 from North America

Summary:

Classic luxury for compact price

Faults:

Rattling noise from drivers front suspension.

Door panels have started to separate (armrests).

General Comments:

We recently bought this car for my wife. Even with 150K miles and 1989 manufacture year, this vehicle remains a surprisingly modern looking vehicle with unmatched comfort and driving feel second to no other vehicle I have ever owned. The interior is very plush, with seats that are different than the norm, yet very comfortable, even on long trips. Gas mileage is very good, even with the 2.6 motor. The exterior styling is very modern while remaining classic MB. We get comments on the car all the time, and people are surprised to learn that it is almost 15 years old. This is top of the line comfort for compact car cost. If you have the chance to buy one, take it and run! Just make sure that the car has been taken care of. Because this is the 'cheap' Mercedes, there are a few that have been abused. They are good cars, so it is not obvious when one has not been taken care of. Mercedes will easily run to 300K miles if taken care of.

Love my metallic gold 89 MB i901E...just turned 100K and is smooth as glass. This is a creampuff and I get a low of comments too. My friend's BMW 99 M3 just died suddenly with only 27K. After driving my toy... he is out on the hunt for a Mercedes. She is in the shop... for a tint job and minor paint repairs. Looks and drives great!

Summary:

Awesome value, performance, reliability!

Faults:

New SRS controller. Got used part saved 1,000 dollars.

Tail Lights were wired incorrectly causing fuses to blow. Easy and cheap fix.

General Comments:

This car is a phenomenal value for the money. When you drive one of these cars you would think that it's only 4 or 5 years old, when in actuality, it is 14 years old.

When you push this car to it's operating limits, it responds to your every command. Aim the 3 Point Star on the hood where you want, and the car WILL follow.

Built solid as a rock! Doors still close with a thunk. Cabin is air-tight. Seats are ultra-comfortable. Climate Control works like a charm. Not one squeak or rattle.

The 103 engine is remarkable smooth. Transmission Shifts are punchy, and crisp. When started in 1st gear the acceleration is incredible (almost impossible given the price). During normal driving car starts off in 2nd gear, leading some to think the car has poor performance. (Little do they know!)

To sum it up. If you can get one at a good price, RUN don't walk. and pick up a 190E 2.6 today.

Well, if we all were so lucky with our Mercedes Benz 190E 2.6...because I'm definately not. Along with 169,500 miles, my rear windows don't work, air conditioner is broken, center vents don't work for the heat, I get about 5 days on a full tank of Premium gas, it constantly needs oil, the alarm had to be disconnected after an embarassing malfunctioning, having to warm up my car for 10 minutes on winter mornings so it drives somewhat decently on my way to school, and the worst part yet-the rough idle! That whenever I'm stopped at a red light with my foot on the brake all it does is shake... hows that for comfort? well consider yourself lucky if you consider your 14 year old car wonderful. and yes I'm only 18 years old also. Wanna trade cars?

1989 Mercedes-Benz 190 e 2.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Affordable luxury

Faults:

Fitted a new clutch at 165,000.

Fitted a new water pump at 100,000.

Fitted a new fuel pump 182,000.

Electric windows have been a problem.

My head gasket blew at 98,000.

The front drivers seat material has worn badly.

General Comments:

The ride of this car is immensely smooth.

The engine is built to last, and is not the quickest of the mark, but the smoothest on the highway.

The ride is very quiet.

It is still a stunning car inspite of it age.

The driving position is very good, and you could be fooled to think you were in your living room.
