2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GT Premium 3.0 from North America

Summary:

Looks nice, but not even close to worth it

Faults:

Door handle was broken when I got it - fixed under warranty.

Gas compartment spring was broken when I got it - fixed under warranty.

Brakes don't give very good stopping power even from Day 1.

Headliner around the back window came loose at 40K miles, superglue or headliner glue that the dealer used lasted about 5 minutes.

Occasionally water will pour out of right speaker after rain, but top doesn't leak.

Brakes squeaked when I got it so I replaced them even though they had over 80 percent left and they still squeak and grind really bad.

Pulls to the left really bad since the day I got it, had it aligned several times and now the computer shows the alignment as right on, but it still pulls. After about 20 miles my arm starts to ache from holding it straight.

Tire leaked air slowly even after I replaced it, finally diagnosed as defective rim.

Passenger window motor slowing down at 75K miles - luckily I purchased a 100K extended warranty.

Something rattles inside the passenger rear side panel almost unbearably. The dealer will check it out, but will charge me $200 if it's not something that is covered by warranty.

Excessive paint chips (I have put 50K miles on it, but I had it repainted last year by the dealer).

A/C isn't all that cold.

Dent Wizard won't work on them because of reinforcements and any little thing gives it a ding.

General Comments:

Looks cool, I love the SportTronic transmission.

Pretty fast, good acceleration, fun to drive short distances.

Depreciates like crazy and I didn't even buy it new.

2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 1.4 liter from North America

Summary:

Patience and a bad memory help me be a semi-satisfied customer.

Faults:

The first problem with the Eclipse was it started shuttering at a slow acceleration. This increased into the car violently shaking on the highway on two occasions. I took it to the dealer so many times for this problem that it was ridiculous. First, they thought it was the (expected) breakdown of the transmission fluid. Then they replaced a $1,000, which they believed would solve the problem. After taking it back for the same problem four or five different times, they finally had someone from outside this dealership look at it and it turned out to be something wrong with the axle.

The sunroof sticks and has been doing this for a while. When it was under warranty and I asked the dealership to check it, they said nothing was wrong with it.

The finish on the headlights chips away. I had those replaced under warranty too.

The wheels get black spots on them that won't come off.

I hired the Dent Wizard to take dents out of the back side panel and he ended up making the dents puckers. He said he would never work dents out of another Eclipse in that body style.

The driver's side seatbelt had to be replaced because it wouldn't latch sometimes.

And now, the transmission fluid level isn't where it should be. Where is it all going?

General Comments:

As bad as the car has been, it has also been equally good.

Its fun to drive.

It looks great when its clean.

I only recommend that people don't buy the first year. Buy the second and third year models when most of the kinks are worked out.

2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT from North America

Summary:

Keep working on it Mitsubishi

Faults:

2 Passenger side water leaks (floods) due to clogged sun roof drainage lines.

A/C Unreliable. Stops working if it rains. Compressor just blew out. When it did work, it was'nt very cold.

General Comments:

Good looking car and is semi fast. Not sure I believe in the engineering.

There are lots of strange engine noises and road noise.

The car has a turning radius of a Boeing 747.

The car has 40k miles on it, but responds and acts as if there were 80k.

The only thing I agree on you with so far is the turning. I have a 2003GT and I absolutely love it, besides how wide it turns. I am hoping from 2001 to 03 they made changes for the good.
