1984 Nissan 720 Pickup from North America - Comments

"This is a cheap and good reliable truck that will last you for years"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I had to re-build the transmission at 107,474 miles because the bearings had worn. The clutch was also replaced at this time.

I have had several problems with the starting system. The starter has been replaced three times. Buy one from the manufacture!!

I replaced the stock ignition coils with MSD coils because one coil failed, but it is amazing that the original coils lasted so long.

My electric choke and float valve have failed in my Hitatchi carburetor and have been replaced with a Warn carb.

The front seats are something to be desired. They are very uncomfortable and will be replaced soon.

General comments?

Even when the transmission broke on my truck, it took me 40 miles home.

This has been the most reliable car that I have owned since my 1976 Dodge Charger. It just keeps on going.

The truck is old and I have just had to replace failing parts that are normal for a truck that is 18 years old.

This is the coolest car I have ever owned. It is very fun to drive, easy to work on and the parts are cheap and easy to find.

I plan on doing a lot more upgrades on this truck and keeping it for several years to come. This is my first Nissan and I have owned several cars in the past. I would recommend this truck to anyone. She does not have a lot of power, but she will get you to where you are going.

It's 2009 and I still have the 1983 1/2 XE King Cab I bought new. It's been nothing short of amazing. Other than the usual tires, brakes, belts and hoses, I probably haven't spent $800 in repairs in all these years.

One clutch disc, 3 alternators, 1 starter, clutch slave and master (just put in) and center shaft bearing replaced twice. Still shakes a little sometimes, not replacing again as I think the drive shaft is out of balance from when I put the clutch disc in.

The front rotors have never been turned. If it wasn't so beat up from 2 wrecks I'd slam a couple of grand into it in a heartbeat, and keep it. I'm guessing 250,000 miles plus. Hard to say, the odometer says 180,000 but that was about 10 or 12 years ago, before the odometer went out. Why bother replacing it? It doesn't leak or burn oil, but I know the timing chain is way past due for replacement. Oh, slight oil leak around rear of valve cover, typical because of engine slant. This truck is indesTRUCKable and should be in a shrine.
