2002 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE 3.5 N/A from North America

Summary:

Good and fast

Faults:

I have only had the car for a short amount of time (2 months) and in the process of red lining it and such, the car has never failed. Right now I have a few mods on there such as the exhaust, intake, and headers (which I really recommend). I think one annoying part about the car is that my seat squeeks when cornering fast. Also not to mention this thing sucks gas. I get about 13 mpg on street, but 32 on freeway. I drive almost completely street.

General Comments:

This car wit ha few upgrades is very fast. I have the 5 speed manual and with the aforementioned parts above, I'm pumping out approximately 240whp which is the same as the 350z.

First of all there is no way you are putting out 240whp, no way!!! Think before you type anything.

Thank you! I am sick of seeing people write things that are totally ignorant and un informed. You have 240 CRANK hp. Not at the wheels. You're lucky to have 205-210 at the wheels.

2002 Nissan Altima SE 3.5 Liter from North America

Faults:

Mass Air Flow Sensor failed at 38,000 miles. The dealer wanted an incredible $480 for the part. O'Reilly Auto Parts was the only parts house that offered a replacement part and their cost was $250.

General Comments:

This car is a sleeper. It is amazingly quick and responsive for a Sedan.

Ordinarily I would wonder why there aren't more of the 3.5 liter versions on the roads. However, when I tried to purchase a new 3.5 Liter Altima SE or LE fully loaded, none of the 6 dealers within a 70 mile radius of me had one in stock. Only one dealer had a stripped down version for me to test drive. I was told nobody wants the 3.5 liter version and was directed to the dozens of 2.5 Liter models on the lot!

Fortunately I was able to find a well kept used model and now I laugh as I pass the many four cylinder Altimas on the road.

If I drive conservatively, on the highway I can average 28 MPG! I understand the 2.5 liter gets only around 30 to 32 MPG. However 90% of my driving is done in a far less conservative mode and I still average around 24 MPG!

This car is just plain fun to drive and I can't imagine any reason to settle for the four cylinder model.

2002 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE 3.5 V6 from North America

Summary:

Excellent sporty family sedan. Get the 3.5 SE though

Faults:

The only problem I have had with this car so far is the poor paint job it seems to have. I have read else where that Nissan just seems to have problems when it comes to the paint on their cars. My problem area is on the back bumper area where the paint bubbles up in spots and has chipped in other spots.

General Comments:

This car drives and handles great.

Coming from a minivan which had a V6 and only got 19 to 20 mpg my Altima gets anywhere from 22 to 26 mpg with a more powerful engine.

I love this car and would get another one in a second if I could.

2002 Nissan Altima 2.5S from North America

Summary:

I used to adore my Altima and am so disappointed with this problem I don't know what I will to do

Faults:

Twice now the car has ceased to run after starting it and shutting it off soon thereafter. I started the car to move it a short distance out of my driveway and shut it off. When I went to start it up again nothing happened at all. I tried holding down the gas pedal and letting it dry out a little, but it would not start. It was towed to a dealership where they got it started a week later. They could not diagnose the problem at all. The first time was in August so a cold start was not the problem. The second time was in the fall/winter and the exact same thing happened.

General Comments:

The car rides extremely well.

It has a ton of room in the front, back, and trunk.

It looks beautiful.

It is great on gas.

It requires very little maintenance.

It is very comfortable.

Fuel pump? Perhaps ignition?
