2001 Nissan Frontier XE 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Would buy another Nissan

Faults:

This truck runs great, no mechanical problems as of 90000 miles... but the minor irritating things are what I don't understand, such as the inside door rubber striping coming off, rubber strip around wheel area coming off, headliner falling down, and all this after only 4 years... also paint on the front bar in front of the grille fades off...

General Comments:

Good running truck if treated good, but needs improvement on the interior and rubber items.

2001 Nissan Frontier SE 3.3L V6 from North America

Summary:

160,000 Miles No Problems.

Faults:

At 160,000 miles, the valve (rocker) cover gaskets began to leak.

General Comments:

I have been *almost* perfectly happy with this truck since day 1. I consider it a really sport oriented truck, compared to other brand's compacts. It drives just great and accelerates hard when you ask it to. I love everything about it, and after driving another vehicle, it's a pleasure to be back behind the wheel of this truck. In short I love it.

So why do I say "almost" perfectly happy? The fuel mileage leaves something to be desired. Every Frontier owner I have spoken to has the same complaint. I guess the pep in the 3.3 comes at the price of MPG. I have had GM V8 engines get better mileage, seriously.

With the 3.3V6 most people notice a ticking sound for a few seconds after a cold startup. I was told this is harmless, it's just slack in the hydraulic lifters as they come up to pressure. I was using 10W30 oil, and when I realized 5W30 is recommended I switched at the next oil change and all, but eliminated the startup ticking.

So in summary- mileage sucks, but this truck is such a great driver it just may be worth it. Be warned on the mileage though.

Other than that, until the rocker gaskets hardened and started seeping oil at 165,000 I didn't have one single mechanical problem. Nothing! What more can a guy ask for?

2001 Nissan Frontier V6 from North America

Summary:

My 4x4 crew cab has been AWESOME!!!

Faults:

I purchased this car with 6000 miles on it. I wanted a bigger truck so I traded in my little Ford Ranger for the Crew Cab 4x4. I have had 0 problems with this truck and would recommend it to anyone. I have 120K and should get the timing belt changed. I driving on borrowed time. I get around 14 miles per gallon in the city and have gotten as much as 20 mpg on the highway. It rides nice and has great space. I love it I love it, I love it.

2001 Nissan Frontier SC Supercharged from North America

Summary:

Save nearly $5 grand and buy a reg. V-6

Faults:

I purchased the truck brand new, fully loaded of course, but without leather.

I noticed right off, the lack of power. Thought my expectations were just too high since I traded in my 2000 Maxima SE (loved it!)

After a year of sluggish performance, I took into the deal 5K away from warranty expiration; thank goodness I did. The dealer told me the Supercharger was defective and hadn't been working at all. It was replaced at no cost (had I paid, it would have been nearly $3000). I drove away after replacement and didn't notice any difference; very disappointing.

In 2005, it started rattling a lot. I only have 55k miles in 4 years and it's very well cared for. I had to replace tires, but learned the size that came on it don't exist so I had to change sizes (whatever that's about).

Overall it's a good truck; nice looking, gets attention, but I am very disappointed about Supercharger!

2001 Nissan Frontier SE Crewcab 4x4 V6 from North America

Summary:

Decent reliability but lousy resale

Faults:

So far this truck has had no mechanical problems.

The drivers seat is splitting near the recline lever at around 40k miles, the dealer would not help since the warranty was up on the interior, I bought the Nissan seat covers to cover it. The seats are too thin and hard and not built as well as older XE style seats.

General Comments:

This truck is underpowered for street driving, but OK for off road. Its too bad Nissan has waited till now to upgrade the engines power.

The ride is a little unsettled and firm, but it is a 4x4.

Overall not as nice as the Tundra, but OK if you don't need great acceleration and towing power.

I think the older hardbody style trucks were better built.
