Ignition coil went bad.

2001 Nissan Pathfinder LX 3.5 from North America

Summary:

The car is very reliable, quick, handles curves excellent, and is great in snow

Faults:

I had to change all 6 coils.

I replaced the transmission.

I replaced the battery.

I replaced the O2 sensor.

General Comments:

This car is seriously quick and handles like it's on rails.

It's very reliable.. however I experienced every issue discussed in each owner's review, i.e. slow, slow windows in the winter (live in N.Y.) I had all 6 coils replaced, due to "service engine soon" (idiot light). My local Nissan dealer diagnosed this issue and stated it's best to replace all 6, when I have a feeling this was a ploy to make more money.

The transmission was slipping and I made the mistake of going to AAMCO to save money, and ended up spending a fortune, and the transmission started leaking when it never leaked before... Finally I went to Nissan and got a Nissan approved rebuilt trans ($$$$).

The crappy Clarion 6 disc CD changer also was giving a ERR2 message that just does not go away... the easy solution is to go on E-bay and but a 6 disc CD changer for 2005 Pathfinder, made by Panasonic... it will stick out a little, and the brackets need some adjusting to make it fit flush, but well worth it (it lights up better too). Just keep in mind you will lose the steering wheel control to the radio, but who cares... also no cassette (big deal)!!!

There was a TSB for transmission "flare", which was corrected by changing the TCM, or by changing both the TCM and solenoid assembly control. I don't know if that was your problem.

Car runs great now after replacing all coils and plugs. Purchased coils online for half the cost. Runs better now than when I first got the SUV.

CD changer has been broken for 2 years. Looking to replace, but having trouble sorting out the wiring.

CEL comes on, make sure gas cap is tight, light goes out.

You said you purchased the coils for half the price online; where did you buy them? What is the website?

2001 Nissan Pathfinder LE 3.5 from North America

Summary:

Still Love It!

Faults:

Hello All, Up until now I was feeling lucky since my Pathy didn't have any issues. I had only changed oil and brakes when needed and 2 years ago I had to replaced the tail pipe cause the original one got rusted.

I am surprised to see that many of you didn't mention it as the problem, cause the guy @ Midas told me he replaces at least 3-4 every week on both Pathfinder and QX4.

Anyways, just turned to 100K miles, so the extended warranty has expired and guess what? just after first of expiration the CD changer got stuck and this past Friday, one of the coil passed away, took it to the local shop where I get the oil change, he suggested to replace all coils since they all have similar life, so I did at a cost of $1279.00 included labor and all six spark plugs as well!!! What a rip-off. By hey, I have been driving it for free for past 3 years, so it is not a bad deal after all.

Interesting that my CD player also quit at 100K! It ate a CD and I haven't been able to get it running since.
