1991 Nissan Sentra GXE 1.6L DOHC MFI (GA16DE) from North America

Summary:

A great little car!!!

Faults:

Required new alternator at 60,000 miles.

During the first several years I had the car the brakes squeaked frequently and it seemed that I was replacing them every year. The dealer I bought the car from said they could not do anything about it. Then I took it to another dealer and I got them fixed the right way. Since I have not heard them squeak or have had to replace them that was 3 years ago!

Front passenger window became dislodged from its track and had to be fixed at 100,000 miles.

Very slow oil leak appeared at 100,000 miles. Not a problem with regular oil change.

Seat belt alarm goes off every once in a while. Does not occur often enough to pay to get it fixed.

Dashboard lights slowly blew out during the course of a few years. Cost about $100.00 to fix.

After 11 years of ownership the paint on the roof is rapidly showing its age.

Trunk lock stopped working with key after 80,000 miles. I need to use the interior latch to open trunk.

General Comments:

Fantastic car!

Very reliable.

No major mechanical problems.

Hardware is still functional. No big problems. All windows, sliding sunroof, power locks and mirrors still working great.

Loses a lot of power with AC on. However the AC is very cold and even colder at highway speeds. The environmental controls are great and simple. Rear defogger is still in perfect working condition.

Gas mileage is very good 30/40 with medium grade.

The acceleration from a stop is not great, but it is quick to pick up speed in upper gears. From 50 to 70 is very quick. The engine pulls very well in the 3000 to 4500 rpm.

Cruise control works well and maintains speed, unless you are in a hilly area.

1991 Nissan Sentra SE from North America

Summary:

Reliable, reliable, (boring,) reliable

Faults:

Starter has been replaced.

Alternator has been replaced.

General Comments:

It may just be my particular car, but there is a "dead spot" in acceleration that kills any potential for driving enjoyment.

For me, though, there is a lot of enjoyment to be found in knowing that...

It's paid for.

Mileage is good.

And repairs are not only affordable, but few and far between.

Not a bad looker, either!

1991 Nissan Sentra SE 1.6 from North America

Summary:

Good car for the money

Faults:

I have had the clutch replaced twice.

Seat belt does not retract.

Manual windows difficult to close.

General Comments:

Overall this car is a good value for the money. It doesn't have many bells and whistles, but with the exception of the clutch, it has been a good car.

1991 Nissan Sentra E 1.6L from North America

Summary:

A great car for the price

Faults:

CV joints went at 223000 miles.

Transmission needed to be replaced at 220000 miles.

Brakes needed to be replaced also at 223000 miles.

The fact of the matter is that if I hadn't gotten into a major accident with this car, I wouldn't have had to replace anything. I hit a stone wall, and that is what took out all of the things listed.

General Comments:

For a small car, my Nissan Sentra E is very fast and reliable.

It never has any problems starting.

The engine is in almost perfect condition for having 223,000 miles on it.

Overall, this car is the best.

1991 Nissan Sentra SE-R 2.0 liter twin cam from North America

Summary:

Best bang for the buck car ever made

Faults:

CV joints and boots replaced at 102,000. They were the original ones on the car.

Having problems sliding the car into first and reverse. The clutch has been on the car since it was taken from the lot, and it still does not slip.

Terrible miss driving in the rain at 99,000. I washed the engine that day, which ended up being the cause of the problem as water got down into the spark plugs.

General Comments:

This car is seriously quick and handles like it's on rails. I could not have said it better myself.

I am 16, it's my first car, it's fast, reliable, gets good gas mileage, and looks great on top of that. What else can you ask for in a car!?

Having 174,000 and still running like a kitten, this is definitely the best car I've ever owned. I am still driving with the original clutch, and still no slipping at all!!
