1984 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Regency review from North America
"Nice 80's luxury ride"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Water pump replaced.
Belts and hoses.
Wiper motor replaced.
Transmission rebuilt.
Turn signal multi-function arm replaced.
All items listed were done when I purchased the car.
General comments?
Once I got the car roadworthy, (It had been sitting idle for some time) it has been very reliable. I was surprised that all the options like the cruise control and power everything (even the clock) still work! The car is typical 80's luxury; comfortable pillow seats, lots of legroom and a smooth, quiet ride.
Body style: In my opinion, of all the 80's "box" shaped cars, Oldsmobile styling has survived the test of time.
Literally millions were built (1980-1985) so parts are plentiful (for now) at the salvage yards and parts stores.
Gas mileage: I get about 15-20 mpg.
Cons: Lots of vacuum hoses that rot with age and heat; I strongly urge anyone who buys one of these old cars to replace them.
307 V-8 motor is adequate, very reliable, just enough power to move such a big car, but nothing special.
