1990 Peugeot 205 Gti 1.6 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Exhaust blown underneath, cracked exhaust manifold, irratic idling.

General Comments:

Very perky engine for the size, but all power is at the top end and has very little torque unless it has been modified. Excellent fun car that is great for town driving but not smooth on long journeys and has a low geared 5th, so motorway revs are very high. Excellent for the 1st time performance car driver.

1990 Peugeot 205 XS 1.4 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Lots, distributor, front brakes (severe brake balance problem - MOT failure), handbrake cables (lots), central locking, fuel tank breather system, driveshafts (ouch).

General Comments:

Apart from the expense paid out to fix above, car is still superb ! Very economical yet sprightly performance. Gearbox a delight, downside is it revs a lot on motorways (80mph - 4500revs in 5th). Only thing better is a 1.9 GTi ! Never broken down, 92K miles and gets better to drive with every mile! Shame about Pug dealerships - mine is serviced by a Peugeot trained mechanic (who has his own business) - dealerships have been rude, careless and expensive. Shame!

1990 Peugeot 205 XE 1.0 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

New exhaust set me back £130 but apart from that it's only had a new battery in two years.

General Comments:

Nice to drive and generally very reliable. Out of all cars this size and age it is definitely one of the least dated as regards style. Small, snappy and sexy.

1990 Peugeot 205 GTi 1.9 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Nothing that you wouldn't expect for the age, and then only relatively minor things. It's had a new handbrake cable, clutch cable, vacuum advance. The biggest things were rear brake discs and a new radiator. When I got it I put a sports exhaust on it and grooved/x-drilled front discs - the original factory ones were fine and still in good condition (71k miles on the clock).

General Comments:

What a *great* car!!! It is such a blast to drive, it practically begs you to drive it hard. Performance is fantastic (even scarey after my old 1.1 Fiat Uno) and it handles like a dream. You sometimes hear Pugs being criticized for poor build quality, but mine feels very tight and solid. The only down side is that it doesn't like going slowly in traffic. 160 bhp 206? Yes please!!
