1994 Peugeot 306 XSi 2.0 8v from Netherlands

Summary:

Fast, beautiful and perfect handling!

Faults:

One brake-disc has been replaced.

Clock has been replaced.

Lambda-sensor died, has been fixed.

Stabiliser makes noise at the left-side.

General Comments:

The XSi drives beautifully.

The car is very fast at low RPM.

At 3.000 RPM it just goes and goes and..

My Remus-exhaust sounds incredible with this car!

I have had no real problems with it (yet) and it's handling is so perfect, it sticks to the asphalt like glue!

You've got a real sporty, comfortable looker with this one!

Beautiful and fast, what more do you want!

1994 Peugeot 306 XSi 2.0 8v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Get a good one and you'll be grinning

Faults:

Both doors needed re-wiring after the wires fractured (common problem on 306s apparently).

Head re-conditioned due to damaged valves.

Cylinder head gasket replaced.

Heater matrix replaced.

Clutch cable replaced (it's common for them to dry out on 306s due to the fact they're routed near the exhaust)

General Comments:

The car, when it's running, is fabulous to drive. Not an out and out hot hatch, but plenty of power and torque for everyday use. If you put decent tyres on it (Yokohama A539 are great) it'll corner at silly speeds without the slightest protest.

I can't fault the comfort either. The seats are wonderfully supportive and really hold you in place while you try your hardest to get the Yokos to let go.

The sunroof might intrude if you're over 6', like me

Major niggles have to be:

Electrical gremlins, common to most Peugeots.

Trim fit is not good enough for a modern car.

Main dealer prices are ludicrous (£60 each for front fogs lamps for instance!!)

If you get one that's not been well looked after (like I seem to have bought), you can expect some hefty bills.

1994 Peugeot 306 XSi 2.0SOHC-8v from Japan

Summary:

The best of middle class

Faults:

Silencer was already broken when I got.

Anti role bar made a noise (right and left) at 45000km.

Starting engine is not smart because injector didn't work well, changed at 50000km.

Tensioner of belt (moving distributer and air compressor) was broken at 67000km.

General Comments:

I think it's best car at style & useful.

And running is so comfortable.

It can run in street and highway and mountain road at very high level.

1994 Peugeot 306 XT 1.9 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Holding it's value

Faults:

Central locking failed after a week of owning it.

Uneven tyre wear.

General Comments:

This car is a dream to drive, and the turbo diesel engine will do 50 miles to the gallon. However, the gears are a little clunky and the clutch is very heavy. Once on an open road, the car is quick, but quiet.

The remote central locking has proved to be a bit of a pain though. Sometimes when I lock the car, it will immediately unlock so it has to be done manually. Having said that, it's been fine recently. These Peugeot+'s have a reputation for dodgy electrics, but they're easily fixed.

Apart from that, I'm pleased with the car. It's got a full service history, which is very important with these 306's. If you're considering to buy one, check the history and all the electrics (chances are something won't work!)

1994 Peugeot 306 S16 2.0 from Gibraltar

Summary:

Stick with it and you will soon be grinning like the Cheshire Cat!!!

Faults:

Replaced Radiator.

Replaced anti-rollbar link arms (both sides).

Minor fuel leak in engine which was corrected with a simple screwdriver.

Minor fuel leak from tank just inside rear right hand side wing. Easily and cheaply fixed.

Two replaced spark plug coils in 1 year.

Replaced air compressor for the air conditioning.

Driver door inside lock fell off and still off!! Tried replacing, but just doesn't want to stay put!

Slight oil deposits on spark plugs, but running fine for time being.

Horrible clicking sound when running the air conditioning.

General Comments:

Lots of faults on this car really.

When its running OK, it's a real knockout of a drive.

Excellent handling and comfort.

Spent a lot on this car really, but still love it to bits. Always puts a smile on my face after a burn.
