2006 Pontiac G6 from North America

Summary:

Great new design... just what consumers needed

Faults:

Seats are a little stiff.

Other than that, the car has been amazingly reliable.

General Comments:

When I first bought this car, I drove 12.5 hours to Kentucky to pick up my daughter... on that drive, I averaged 38-2 miles per gallon. This car is only rates at 32. Rarely do cars actually get.. not to mention overpass the mpg they say they should get...

Very happy with this car. Great job Pontiac.

The G-6 is a very well built and reliable vehicle. My family has driven several GM cars over the years and we've had absolutely ZERO problems with any of them. My only regret with Pontiac is that it dropped the incredibly powerful, maintenance-free (no rubber timing belt) and reliable Quad 4 engine. One of our current vehicles is a 2001 Grand Am with the Quad 4. I've driven 2 of the new G-6's equipped with the V-6 and neither is as fast as my Grand Am. On the plus side, the GM V-6's are VERY fuel efficient. My brother's Chevy Impala gets an incredible 33 mpg on the highway. My Grand Am 4 only gets 30. I don't plan to trade any time soon, as most of our friends have gotten 200,000+ miles out of their Grand Ams and mine is absolutely showroom at this time, but the G-6 might be a future (FAR future) choice. Lots of luck with yours.

Especially during the running in period... what do you do at the General anyway?

I'm really surprised at the GREAT fuel mileage the mid-size and large GM cars get with their reasonably powerful V-6's. Our Impalas both got over 33 mpg on the highway, and that is very good for such a large and heavy sedan. Many GM V-6's get better mileage than many 4's. My wife's 275HP in-line 6 GMC Envoy got over 24mpg on a highway trip this summer, and that was a VERY pleasant surprise too for a large SUV. GM is doing something right.

2006 Pontiac G6 GT 3.5 from North America

Summary:

The Pontiac G6 GT is a car for people who want a sporty ride, while not giving up comfort

Faults:

The tires are continentals and they are terrible.

Soft plastic tail lights scratch easy.

Up shift from 2 to 3 gear in the manu-matic function is hard.

General Comments:

This car is an awesome American achievement, I believe that if more American car companies used this format of making cars that are appealing they would not be in the position they are in.

The acceleration is joyful, and puts a smile on my face every time I hit the pedal, especially when I think how doggy my old Acura was. (Japanese superiority?)

The traction control feature is mildly useful, tends to get in the way of fun most of the time.

The fit and finish is better then older American cars, but its not quite to the point of the Japanese auto companies yet, but I think that Pontiac has the best craftsmanship of any of the middle class American cars.

The seats hold you in place when zipping around corners, which I like.

Finally the Monsoon stereo is OK. It could use more balance because I think that the Bass in the system is overdone. But because of the integrated vehicle computer I cannot replace the head unit.

Your comparing a 4 banger to a brand new 6 banger?

Of course the acceleration is good, it's a sports car.

You do realize that TOYOTA designed the G6 and sold it to pontiac (that is why the style is so well done). The G6 GT is nothing more than an Camry Solara with a pontiac power train..
