1995 Pontiac Grand Am SE 2.3 DOHC from North America

Summary:

Definitely a great sports/cruising car!

Faults:

So far all that has gone wrong would have to be the rackin pinion on the passengers side is starting to loosen, but other than that I also had problems with the windows, but all I had to do was straighten the window frame and all is good.

General Comments:

All I have to say is WOW it can't be any more punchy then it is. the handling on this car is great and everything that goes with it. Even with only two doors the entire car is very roomy. And the best thing is that repair bills are very tiny, parts are not very expensive.

1995 Pontiac Grand Am SE 3.1L from North America

Summary:

Good value for the money

Faults:

Window motor on driver's side had to be replaced after owning the car 1 month (luckily I had purchased the extended warranty). Otherwise it could have been quite costly.

General Comments:

The car handled well when I test drove it, cornered nicely, felt steady on the road and it seemed to have more weight in the back end, compared to my Beretta. I bought the car and have been pleased with its overall performance and reliability.

I think the interior could be laid out a bit better. There is a cup holder under the dashboard, and it doesn't hold anything. There is a compartment inside the car in the center above the rear-view mirror, what is that for??? Nothing fits in it. There are what are supposed to be cup holders in the doors on each side of the car, but try to put a beverage in there and then make a turn at even 25 m.p.h, your beverage ends up on the floor.

There isn't enough padding in the seats when driving for longer periods of time. The seats are fine for quick trips, but anything over a couple hours behind the wheel and you will begin to feel cramped and uncomfortable.

The controls seems to be laid out well enough. My model didn't have power mirrors, and I would have liked that as an option, but didn't give it much thought when the purchase was made. My bad.

Acceleration is good, handling is great, could be a bit more roomy inside. Not a great deal of head room for someone over 5'8", otherwise, it's a good car.

The car is a safe one. I was in an accident traveling at 60 m.p.h., rammed into the rear of another car. Only minimal damage considering the impact. No injuries to driver or passengers (1 in front seat, 1 in back seat). The hood folded, and there was a broked light. All things considered, I'm pleased with this car and would buy another.

1995 Pontiac Grand Am V6 from North America

Summary:

Good fast car for the price I paid and not too many major problems until now

Faults:

My drivers side and passenger windows stopped working. Drivers side is open about 1/8th inch.

Overheating, replaced water pump, thermostat, radiator cap, still overheating!

General Comments:

Other than the windows and it looks like everyone has this problem, this car has been excellent.

The overheating is baffling us right now.. we have replaced the thermostat, water pump & radiator cap, it is still overheating and faster then before! I drive 45 minutes one way to work and have now missed 3 days because I can't get 10 minutes out of town without it going into the far red!

I realize I've put a lot of miles on this car and it honestly has been a great car for me, but this overheating has me ready to blow it up! What else could it be besides what we have already replaced?? Any ideas? Thanks!

There is an engine coolant temperature sensor that turns on the electric radiator fan when the engine gets too hot. this is assuming that the relay is intact. This relay (fuse) is located in the engine compartment near the drivers side firewall.

Try the heating coil.

Try making sure thta you have the right mixture of fluids, and your radiator is not glogged up.
