2001 Pontiac Grand Am SE 2.4L from North America

Summary:

I enjoy driving this vehicle, since it is a major upgrade from my previous car

Faults:

Fuel pump at 80K miles, driver's window regulator at 80K miles, fuel pump again at 99K miles, passlock security system at 99K miles, passenger window regulator at 99K miles.

Since acquiring the vehicle from my daughter, I have spent a considerable amount of time chasing electrical gremlins, ranging from inoperable windows and door locks to courtesy lights which would not turn off. Most recent trip to dealer totaled over $1000 dollars (fuel pump / passlock sensor) and didn't correct the major issues.

All of these problems were corrected upon finding and removing moisture and corrosion from the circuit board in the BCM. This unit is not well sealed, and appears to be the controlling factor to most electrical components of the vehicle interior. Clean dry connections and I have had none of the originally mentioned issues. Everything works just as the factory intended.

General Comments:

Extremely comfortable car to drive. Runs well and gets respectable gas mileage.

2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT 2.4 from North America

Summary:

I would not suggest this car to anyone

Faults:

I've had numerous problems with the car. First it was the security problem, which happened while I was on a trip 2 hours from my state (Delaware). I took it to a shop that my family has always gone to, and they told me that it was definitely the pass lock system, which was $500 to replace. I was not happy.

Today I stopped at my house to pick something up and went back out about 5 minutes later and now my car will not start. I do not hear the fuel pump turning on, and when I try to start it, I smell gasoline, even though there is no puddle under it. I'm not too sure, but it sounds like the fuel pump went.

I have not had a problem with the windows yet, but I'm sure it is coming. All of the electronics in the car seem to cause many people problems.

General Comments:

I love the car because it looks good and it runs good. I've had way too many problems with it however.

2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT V6 from North America

Summary:

I'm glad I bought it

Faults:

I bought my Grand-Am in 2005 from a family who was expecting another member and needed a van. My only complaint was the CD player skipping. I replaced it with a Blaupunkt stereo and I'm happy.

General Comments:

The grand-am is the first car I've ever had with front wheel drive and a V-6, and I'm pretty impressed. It gets regular tune ups, and just runs and runs. The only problem I've had so far is a flat tire knock on wood...

Faults:

This car left me stranded 4 times.

We went to a "shade tree" mechanic -- 1st bad choice. My car wouldn't start so my husband put gas in the engine, it would start for a second then of course die. So.. we thought just like the mechanic did it was the fuel pump. That was over $300.00 with labor.

Well a few weeks later it did it again, he changed it out with another fuel pump. He didn't have anything to test my car so he was just guessing. It left me stranded again the other day, luckily close to home. But we brought it to a different mechanic so he could put it on a computer. Came to find out it was the ignition switch the whole time. So now that's another $300.00 for something that would've cost us only $300.00 originally, and now it's all together over $600.00 because we went to a "shade tree" mechanic. My advice is bring it to a pro from now on.

2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT 3.4 from North America

Summary:

A to B with 3 stops in between

Faults:

I found a lot of water in my passenger seat floor. I went to start my car and it would just not turn over. It appears there was condensation from the AC and it has now shorted out the body control mod. Also had the turn siganl and multifunction switch replaced.

General Comments:

Do not buy.
