1993 Pontiac Grand Am SE review from North America

"A good deal for what I paid for it"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I have cooling problems about once every two months.

I have had to replace the heater core.

The thermostat began to stick. I replaced that when the heater core was replaced.

The compressor for the air conditioning is sticking. I am currently fixing that.

The oil light goes on and off regardless of ammount of oil in oil system or temperature.

The "dinging" noise my car made when the door was ajar won't ever stop dinging. I removed the fuse.

The struts and rear shocks will eventually have to be replaced.

Plastic interior squeaks.

General comments?

This car was bought used for 1600 dollars.

So far, it has had the usual repairs I have expected for a car of this value.

Even though I don't like the idea of pouring more money into a car so old, I need to get around.

It has a roomy interior. Being a man of 6ft 3, it's nice to get good gas mileage and to be comfortable.

The interior is clean as a whistle.

The a/c blows chilly and the heater blows hot.

The handling is good.

The engine power is decent. Enormous power loss when A/c is on. More than I'd expect.

The stupid 4x6 speakers in the doors are inacessable unless you pull off the door panel.

Roomy trunk.

It is big enough to call a 4 door and save insurance costs.

It is small enough to make people not want to ride in the back, so I treat it like a 2 seater.

The gas tank nozzle is on the passenger side. This made for interesting arguments at gas stations when swinging around to try and get into the spot.
