While this car has definitely had it's ups and downs, it really hasn't cost a pile of money yet. The most aggravating point is the failure of the indicator lights to go off and stay off. It's been reasonably affordable on gas and is actually quite enjoyable to drive. Most of the repairs were done prior to the warranty expiring and I have done some on my own. It's a shame that the brake rotors are starting to appear as a constant problem with this car. If anyone is curious, the Power Steering Hose repairs run around $400 Cdn. Rotors are around $100 per, and pads are around $50.
I recently worked at a Pontiac dealership and in the five months I was employed there I saw about two thousand Grand Am's in the service department. A number of these cars were in on a weekly basis. The owners were never happy with the supposed performance of the cars or anything about them. If you have purchased a new Grand Am you are most likely in for a big long headache.
I am having the same problems with my Grand Am. I had to replace the engine at 64000 miles! Rotors barely last 3 months, I always have a rubbung sound in my front wheels nd have replace brakes several times and still have the same problem. Constantly having to clean brae dust off rims. Sometimes when I am low in gas it will not let me fill it up it will pump like.60 worth and it will throw the pump nozzle off as if it were already filled and my service engine light comes on and goes off at random. zi had new tires put on the car and then my check tire pressure light came on and to beat it all after my oil has been changed the change oil light comes on. I Will Never Buy Another Pontiac again! If I knew I was gonna have close to $20,000 in a used car I would have bought a new one!
OK something about that last comment on the change oil light. I bet you did it your self didn't you.. i mean the oil change. OK the thing is that you have to pump the gas pedal and do some things. The mechanics usually do it after the oil change. You can read about it in the manual.
