Engine and transmission 3.8 Supercharged Automatic

Most recent distance234000 miles
Previous carPontiac Grand Prix

Summary:

Long lasting

Faults:

I own a 98' Grand Prix GTP, and I wrecked it a couple months ago, and just got it fixed and the car ran fine and everything, but I lost my keys to the car and had to go to the dealership to get a new key cut by VIN (I got the first key from there by VIN as well).

However the key only worked on the doors, not the ignition, it will not turn over as if it is the wrong key. I went back to the dealership, I had them make me another one, and still the same problem.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

Summary:

I have been the only owner of this car, which has been excellent overall

Faults:

This car has really been pretty good, minus a couple glitches. I had to replace the alternator twice, once at 30,000 and once at about 60,000 miles.

My radio lights went out after about the first year, never hassled with the replacement.

My check engine light came on at about 140,000 miles... that was over 100,000 miles ago!!! It cuts out now when it gets hot outside, but after replacing several parts and nothing showing up on diagnostics, we just idle one foot on the gas, one foot on the brake:) Always starts right back up.

Has the moisture in the head lens issue.

Passenger seat buckle sometimes clicks before you insert the piece, but I just slide a pen cap edge in there and it releases every time, then it can be buckled and released. Has never stuck with buckle inserted!

I can't remove my key without putting the steering wheel up and inserting a pen tip or something up a little whole in the column below it.

After over 249,000 faithful miles and very little to complain about, I will be driving her to her grave. I would definitely buy another one.

General Comments:

Car handles GREAT in snow, and picks up speed very quickly!

Seats are not that comfortable and is difficult to get in and out of when very pregnant!

Summary:

Best car I have ever bought actually!!

Faults:

Drivers Power Window Regulator/Motor went out and the radio shorts out sometimes. that's it.

General Comments:

When I bought my 1st 98 Grand Prix GT I replaced the brake pads, rotors, struts/mounts all the way around, a coolant and transmission flush, new battery, a few lightbulbs and the car ran like a champ until I crashed it. I knew who owned it before me and how she drove it and where, how it was maintained and it's reliability. It had been drivin hard on dirt roads and survived a lot. I actually crashed that last week (Dec 16th) and I bought another 98 Grand Prix GT today (Dec 21st) only this car has 267,175 miles! Yeah! Power Everything, Dual Climate control, Leather, Moonroof, HUD and absolutely everything works great, the paint has a few rust spots, but is still nice and glossy, the transmission shifts great and engine is running strong (May have been rebuilt) It has a new battery, front struts (needs rear), tie rod ends, ball joints, brakes all the way around. The car also could use a new/used exhaust it sounds sweet loud though... I am very happy with these cars... I have a older lady friend of mine with a 97 Grand Prix GT with 170,000 miles in excellent shape, and a new kid I work with has a 2000 Grand Prix GT that just rolled over 200,000 miles. these are GREAT STRONG RUNNING RELIABLE CARS IF YOU TAKE CAR OF THEM. I will continue to buy Grand Prix's years 1997-2003 whenever I can.

Summary:

I love my GTP!

Faults:

My GTP has been great to me. I have had it for over four years and put over 70,000 miles on it. It has taken me across the country and back at 173000.

The only things I have had to replace are both tensioner pulleys, both belts, low coolant sensor, passenger side half shaft, driver side tie rod, plugs, wires, 1 coil, and a little oil.

That wouldn't be too bad, except now I am in the process of replacing a fuel injector, driver side window motor and regulator, and that rattle in the supercharger, the coupler.

General Comments:

Add a smaller s.c. pulley, Venom injectors, super chip, and exhaust, and you have one fast V6!
