Faults:

I purchased this car in June of 2006

When I bought the car it was great nice paint job, affordable, comfortable until I started having problems with the transmission. I hade only hade the car 2 months before I started having problems with it. I love the car because it is sporty and fun to drive.

Faults:

Mostly exterior problems; the front and rear bumpers have been falling apart in the extreme cold this winter.

Otherwise, the only thing wrong under the hood was the shifter cable; it's electric converter had to be disconnected to cut off all power to the car at time of engine disengage while in park. The previous owner apparently had spilled pop and other sticky beverages all over the console and junked up the cable.

General Comments:

So far this Grand Prix GTP has proven reliable and I tend to drive it hard, racing whenever I can. Overall performance is good, especially around corners and curves. It is a great looking car that runs well and is very fun to drive.

Faults:

Well a 77,000 miles the motor had to be replaced!!! What else could go wrong.

General Comments:

This car was a 7,000 dollar piece of royal crap. I have only had the car 2 months and had to put well over 2,000 just to keep it running!!! Not to mention the power windows refuse to go up and down. My door panel's are falling off. My rear struts have gone bad and the passenger side of the car leaks water on the floor now. When I looked at the car and test drove it there was none of these things wrong with it except the door panel's, but I did not think that was a big deal. the interior and exterior were excelent, but the mechanic part was obviously not.

Faults:

Only major problem with my grand prix was changing the spark plugs and wires. This really is not a problem since it should be done on every car at least every 30,000. It seems like most of the Grand Prix owners have not been taking good care of their vehicles, simply because of the forum details I have read. Every car needs to be taken care of, you cannot just let it go and then hope for the best, every car requires the proper tuning at one point or another, so quit cryin about every little detail, and go get yourself one of those rice burners that only have 120hp. Maybe you will be happier with one of those. Thank you.

General Comments:

Very comfortable, plenty of room for front and back passengers, even in my 2 door model.

Very good acceleration and handles the road like its on rails, wide-track really works well.

Very reliable engine, will last very long with even minimal maintainance.

Very sexy looks, GT model comes with very good extras and very nice stock rims.

All the electronic goodies you could want.

Faults:

On my previous 94 Grand Prix SE 3.1L at 165,000 miles, my head gasket blew and the head cracked in half. Other than that, just regular maintenance, (brake pads, Disc and exhaust.) The 94 ran for over 240,00 miles before I let my son have it, so he could trade it in for a 2004. It still ran like a top.

On my present 98 Grand Prix GTP, at 131,000, I am getting ready to replace my SC nose drive, instead of rebuilding it. The nylon type bushing was wearing, and I let it go too long, and now it is affecting my bearings. You can replace the bushing yourself, but to do the bearings, you need a Hydraulic press. I feel it is cheaper to go to ZZperformance.com and buy a completely rebuilt nose for $200 with better than OEM parts. If you plan to put a smaller pulley on, buy it from them and they'll install it for free when you buy the nose. Also, their bushing is of better material than that of the OEM one, and will last way longer.

General Comments:

As for the 98 Grand Prix GTP Coupe, I would not hesitate to buy another one. That car has surprised a lot of other newer and older muscle cars, including a newer Vette. From a dead stop at a light, he never got closer then my rear passenger window. He was winding it out for all that it was worth, and I never noticed I had it in 2nd all the time.

Being have been in the automotive building trade business for over 20 years, and dealing with the factories directly, there is no perfect model, brand or car. Each model, no matter how good it is, you are bound to get a batch that will have problems in certain areas. This goes back to the fault of quality control inspection, where the parts was made and/or assembled.
