1999 Pontiac Grand Prix gtp 3.6 supercharged from North America

Summary:

This car peforms well, but falls apart quickly

Faults:

Car would stop running while driving, from purchase to 5,000 miles, then fixed itself?

Clear coat paint cracked and peeled on hood and top after 2 yrs.

Window mechanism on 2 doors broken off at end...$1800 parts.

Panel below back passenger door fell off.

Water dripping inside car by fan.

Blower fan went out... very short wires under there.. not a fun job...150 for part.

Tcs, ABS and cruise computer went out at 50,000 miles...$900 for new computer brain.

Reflective digital read out freaked out when it got hot after about 2 years...has never been the same since.

Rearview mirror fell off.

$2700 in parts, not 2 mention labor, just 2 get the car in order 2 sell... how much is a 99 worth now?

General Comments:

I like the way these cars look, handle and perform.

They get good mileage.

Comfortable also.

1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GT 3.8 V6 from North America

Summary:

Hot and Sporty!

Faults:

Headlights needed to be replaced.

Front suspension squeaks.

Needed new battery... Replaced the AC Delco battery.

Needed transmission flush... fluid smelled fishy and burnt.

Taillights are cracking around the edges.

Power steering wines loudly.

The light on the radio display dimmed out.

The AC Delco cd player skips badly.

The climate control sometimes displays the wrong outside temperature.

The 5 spoke rims are starting to get hazy, even though I do take care of them often.

During rainy days, the BOSE speakers fade in and out.

General Comments:

I own the 2 door Gulf Blue model of the Grand Prix.

This car has amazing power and acceleration!

Right now I'm getting about 19.1 MPG CITY and 19.5 HIGHWAY MPG, just using regular unleaded gas. Could be better?

Car handles really good on turns, but while driving straight... its wacky.

The radio controls on the steering wheel are a dream come true!

The auto sensing headlights are wonderful! You never forget to turn your headlights on because they turn on automatically when it gets dark outside.

The 2 door GT model is a very sporty car, especially for a teenager like myself.

I highly recommend this car!!

I only had this car for 5 months now, and nothing major has gone wrong with this car, even with 132,000 miles on it!

1999 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 3.1 3.1L V6 191c.i.d. from North America

Summary:

The Pontiac Grand Prix is the perfect mix of performance and luxury

Faults:

Intake manifold gasket developed a slight antifreeze leak. I noticed it at about 55K, but it was probably there when I bought it. Although a great engine, GM's late model 3.1L is notorious for this.

Also a notorious problem on Grand Prix's, the passenger floor gets wet after it rains.

General Comments:

The car has only had these two problems which is common for all of them. Other than that it's a great car. Fun to drive, reliable, starts like a light switch in even below 0 weather.

Replaced transmission at 97,000 miles.

Illumination on radio readout has gone out.

Anyone else have this problem?

Any suggestions?

General Comments:

The GT Coup handles well and has a sleek look.

Ample interior room for a six footer in front.

Cramped space for adult in rear.

Hey, I have a 99 Monte Carlo, and my car still misfires after I changed my plugs and wires. My computer showed no codes either, so I don't know where the misfire is coming from. I heard it might be a fuel injector, so I am going to try that. If you find out what is causing your Grand Prix to misfire, please let me know. Thanks (If I find out any info, I'll let you know.

Some transmissions have a valve problem which makes the car feel like its misfiring look into it...

Have you tried cleaning your mass air flow sensor? Mechanics tend to overlook this.
