1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP from North America - Comments

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Total Transmission rebuild at 62,000. Bearings were bad in Torqe converter, several bad solenoids in the transmsion. Outside Temp gauges broke, HUD goes dim for no reason (bad solder joint on PC Board.) Radio displays 333 when it gets hot out. Almost all electronics have a problem. Breaks wore unevenly right after I bought it, made a cut in the rotor, and the dealer refused to repair because it was the braking system, even though it was under warranty.

General comments?

The car has a good engine, that is it! It is fast if you can spend a lot of money to get it working right. If you don't know transmissions, it probably isn't running right. It handles like a boat, turns like a truck, you need to replace the struts after 10,000 miles on the grand prix. The seats are nice. The car can be quick if you spend a lot of time working on keeping up with tons of repairs.

Sorry to here that. I bought a 1999 GTP Grand Prix with 22,000 miles in 2000. It now has now 371,902 miles on it now.

Only basic maintenance, standard rotors and pads typical for Gran Prix's. All power and HUD still working. Shifter needs replaced now for bad solenoid my mechanic says. I've had a 1989 LE Grand Prix 175,000 miles before trade in and a 1994 GT Gran Prix. They've been good to me.
