Faults:

The head gasket was blown at 215,000Km which existed when I purchased the car for $300.00 Canadian currency.

The coil pack needed replacement at 222,900Km when it stopped producing spark for #2 Cylinder - The loss of power is remarkable when a 4 banger suddenly becomes a 3...

Suspension is now poor, the struts need replacement as the car just crashes over bumps in the road.

Dashboard has separated just above the radio, this problem existed when I purchased the vehicle.

The front speakers are blown.

General Comments:

The previous owner did not have the time/money to replace the car's blown head gasket.

I spent about $600.00 Canadian currency, purchasing the kit/lubricants necessary to replace the head gasket and give it a valve job etc... I also replaced the timing belt/water pump and serpentine belt at the same time. It took an amazing level of effort for me to complete the job (my first time) but it was worth it.

My Sunbird is fun to drive and very reliable and has not caused me any grief, yet...

Faults:

The spoiler begins to peel up on the ends. Nothing superglue can't fix. The front speakers were stock when I got them, and after 11 years they were blown to pieces. The trunk leaks a little, but not major. The rear reflectors are a little loose. I think my power steering pump is about to give.

General Comments:

This is a really great car, but when I bought it from my cousin, he worked at a body shop. So this car is in extremely beautiful shape. For a 4 cylinder, this is an awesome car. my friends say its slow, but after replacing the air filter, this car peels out.

Faults:

Driver side window motor blew at 135000.

Water pump blew at 141000.

Serpantine belt tensioner broke at 130000.

Stabilizing rod broke at 131000.

A/C Compressor died at 140000.

General Comments:

Even with all the things that have happened with this car, I still love it.

The 3.1 V6 still has some get up and go to it, and it handles well. I think a lot of these issues can be expected with cars with high miles.

A lot of the issues were relatively inexpensive to fix, with the exception of the A/C Compressor which came to $650.

Even though there is no need for them, I love the little flip up headlight covers.

The seats are a little cushy, making it hard o see over the wheel for shorter people.

All in all though, I love this car. I just wish I could have gotten it when it had 50,000 miles instead of 120,000.

Faults:

The radiator started leaking pretty bad. Had to replace it. It was in rough shape when I got it.

I had to replace the exhaust and muffler.

I had to replace the rear hub assemblies on both rear wheels. Whoever put the tires on previously tightened the nuts down to hard. I ended up snapping off a few of the bolts. That's not the car's fault.

I currently have a faulty spark plug wire which causes a cylinder to skip, but will be cheap to replace.

Has some rust on the doors (Canadian winters and salt aren't easy on exteriors of cars).

General Comments:

I love this car. It's my third car and it has so far been the best. I've hardly had to do anything to it and most of what I've had to do is just general stuff.

It has good acceleration, handles well, and is fairly comfortable. I really like the seats. I'm 6'1" and I find it fairly easy to get in and out of and the seats are pretty comfortable.

It has been a really reliable car for me so far. I think it will be as long as I maintain it. Gas mileage is pretty good too.
