2001 Renault Megane X64 1.6 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Personality!

Faults:

Roof died / been replaced. $1,800.00.

Hydraulics for roof repaired. $300.00.

Coil packs replaced. $480.00.

Engine mounts replaced. $200.00.

General Comments:

I still love driving in the cold night despite this. It loves corners and sometimes over steers when being reckless. It really has a charm that makes this car stand out; even the roof hood isn't entirely flat.

2001 Renault Megane Coupe Dynamique 1.4 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Good looking car that's a nice drive, sadly let down by Renault reliability

Faults:

ABS system failure after brakes being replaced at a cost of £300.

3 engine coils failed at separate intervals at a cost of £50 each.

Electric window motor failed at a cost of £60 to replace.

General Comments:

A nice handling car with comfortable seats and a good driving position.

Most controls in a good position except for the hazard warning switch; every time I needed to use it, I had to take my eyes off the road to locate it!

Not much leg or head room in the back, but the seats are comfortable.

Fair sized boot for a coupe, and the seats fold down for larger items.

The engine is under powered, and struggled with a full load, but returned 34MPG even though constantly used at high revs to get power out of it.

2001 Renault Megane cuope 1.6 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Look's really nice, but performance is dreadful

General Comments:

The car is comfortable and there's' loads of space for the people sat in the front but there is no leg or head room in the back, and it has all the con's like fog lights, air con, half leather, electric windows front ant back, 6 disk CD changer, with all the controls for the CD player on the steering wheel.

Reliability isn't too bad only thing which as gone wrong is the coil pack went after 20.000 miles, but it's a common fault with renault's, and the paint work chip's and dent's really easy apart from that it's been great.

Performance is really rubbish for a 1.6 16v engine you read on site's 0-60 is about 9.3 seconds it's not true it's a lot slower, the revs go up so slow and in gear acceleration is rubbish my old 1.4 16v fiesta zetec had a more willing engine.

2001 Renault Megane Dynamic + 1.6 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Fun and comfortable, and generally reliable

Faults:

No major issues until lately.

Back in January it needed a new windscreen wiper motor, and now this week it needed a new cat due to a mis-fire. Located the mis-fire, and it was due to pencil coils, purchased those off ebay at a huge saving compared to Renault. The problem was still there, but not as bad, so changed all sparks and now OK. Currently at 70k, and I love my car.

General Comments:

Bought the car 2 and a half years ago; nice looking, does what I want when driving, good to great sound and performance, looks good, mpg good, general wear and tear good.

The 6 CD changer is good as I'm always changing my music tastes.

The seats are very comfy!!!

Cat costs £220 fitted.

Bearings cost £25 per wheel

Coils from Renault £45 each (you need 4 to change them all).

General service £99 incl plugs/filters.

2001 Renault Megane Classic Autentique 1,9L TDi from Lithuania

Summary:

Reliable, low fuel, lack of comfort

Faults:

No problems at all.

General Comments:

Good reliable car.

Not comfortable enough for long trips.

Could be less noisy.

Perfect fuel economy. It runs on average 5 l/100 km all 240.000 km I own this car.

2001 Renault Megane Standard 1.8i 16v 120 bhp Automatic from Germany

Summary:

This car is very unreliable and I wish I hadn't sold my Audi A3

Faults:

The starter went bad at around 50000 kilometres and car had to be towed.

Tires have wore out quickly in the period of time I've had it.

Windshield Wiper blades wear out quickly.

The car has had to be towed in several to where the dealer could'nt explain. This has been lots of trouble because this usually happens when I'm going to work. It seems like I have spent more time in rental cars than this car.

General Comments:

All of the occurrences of the car not starting happened in the morning at work. I believe I have spent more time in rental cars than in this one. The Audi A3 I had before I had this car was much better quality.

Renault brought out this model with KNOWN problems with the fuel injection system.

The senior support engineer of the importer in The Netherlands confirmed this.. but asked not to be quoted officially.

Renault changed the car after it quit running so many times and they couldn´t repair it.. and the new one started the SAME problems after a few months...

Renault France just said `keep cleaning the injection system` and gave us some special stuff to add to the fuel...

UNBELIEVABLE.. just bringing something onto the market that they KNEW was rubbish!!!

NEVER NEVER another Renault!!!
