2005 Saturn ION from North America

Summary:

I hate it

Faults:

This car has a mind of its own - an EVIL one. It starts when it wants to.

General Comments:

This car is horrible. I have the starting problem same as everyone else. Except that sometimes it starts after ten minutes, but sometimes I have to go through this crap THREE times!!! Sometimes even in the summer!!! I will NEVER buy another Saturn!

2005 Saturn ION 2 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Glad it was discontinued, so no one else has to go through this

Faults:

Two weeks after I bought the car, the transmission would 'bolt' and the car would stall out.

A week later the driver side window fell in.

Subsequently, in the next two years every window had to be replaced because of faulty manufacturing.

The dashboard peeled two weeks after the car was bought, and it had to be replaced.

My passlock light stays on and won't go off.

I have had no power steering for the past 6 months. The car intermittently will not start for no apparent reason.

The car has a knocking sound in the back and in the front. It sounds as if it is going to fall apart.

General Comments:

This car is a disaster and I would never have recommended the Ion to anyone. No wonder it was discontinued.

The knocking sound may be CV joints if it goes with the car's speed and is louder when you turn. Good luck.

I bought a Saturn Ion 2005 last year, it's second hand, and incredible to me, every time the weather is cold, the car doesn't turn on. I was reading about recalls and nothing, and about other cars and I found that the Saturn Ion 2004 has this problem, but nothing about the 2005. I want to know what happened and how I can fix this problem, it's driving me crazy.

I am guessing you bought a used car.

I'll agree that the Saturn Ion wasn't a good vehicle new or used, however I disagree that all used cars are bad. We own a 1996 Toyota Corolla, a 2006 Toyota Corolla, a 2006 Honda CR-V and a 2009 Toyota Camry. All were purchased used. All have over 65K miles (the '96 Corolla has 204K) and none have ever given us any serious issues (the '06 and '09 Toyota's have had ZERO problems).

Used cars can be a better value than new. Depreciation isn't as bad, and many times the previous owner worked out any "bugs" the car may have had.

2005 Saturn ION from North America

Summary:

Pretty good as long as it starts

Faults:

For last month my car has not been starting in the morning. I wait 15 minutes and the car starts. This problem has made me late to work several times.

I called the Saturn dealer and told them of the problem. I advised them that I went on the Internet and read over 100 stories with same problem. I made an appoint to take my car in and they repaired it at no charge.

My advice is to call the Saturn dealer and complain until they do something about it; it worked for me.

General Comments:

Good on gas.

2005 Saturn ION 3 from North America

Summary:

This was the most expensive mistake I've ever made

Faults:

Continued water leaking/rather pouring into the front passenger floorboard, sometimes even into the back floorboard. Lately, water is also leaking on the drivers floorboard.

I took it to the dealer several times and they insisted it was coming from the sunroof being stopped up. I removed the wind scoop and it continued to leak. Strange thing is the headliner has never been wet, and is in good condition.

I've been dealing with this problem since I bought it new in 2005. The carpet is ruined and stinks. I am tired of vacuuming out water every time it rains or I go on a road trip.

The driver side front (amber colored) signal light keeps blowing.

The driver door panel will not open or lock the doors most of the time.

The gas indicator hand will not work at times.

The leather seats are thin and cheap.

General Comments:

I bought this car to help the US economy; supposed to be made in the US. I hate this car, and I would never buy another Saturn.

I wished a thousand times, I still had my old Nissan Sentra back. That was a great car!

I agree also I wished I would have just been happy with my 91 Dodge Ram. Beater truck. So what, I would have had all these headaches.
