1995 Saturn SC 1 from North America

Summary:

Not a pretty car, but perfectly reliable and cheap for years

Faults:

Rear spoiler "paint" pealed off in 2002-2003.

Headliner shredded due to dry rot.

Cloth on door panels came off completely.

Dash board cracked down the middle and across steering wheel.

Driver's side window handle does not work.

Driver's window slides down.

Rain leaks horribly on driver's side, passenger side, and rear passenger side seats due to the metal molding around the door, and window frames bending over time and coming loose.

Tape deck stopped working in 2001.

Part of the clutch cable broke off, but a mechanic fixed it for $30, rather than replacing the whole cable.

General Comments:

Aside from the above mentioned cosmetic problems, which really make driving in the car with passengers an embarrassment, this car has been wonderfully reliable!

It does use oil quickly, which is a common problem with Saturns from what I'm told, but I have shamefully gone 5,000 miles between a couple of oil changes before, and had no problem with it.

Along with regular maintenance, we have had to replace a radiator hose, spark plugs, and I think maybe alternator as well, and fix the clutch cable. Other than that, there's really nothing mechanically that we've had to do with this car.

It tends to overheat when in stop and go traffic, or when on long trips, now that it is older, but it can handle it as well.

I would recommend Saturns based on what this car has been through for the 12 years we have had it, and the mileage it has racked up with no mechanical problems. I trust that since this was an early model for the Saturn company, they worked out their interior design and quality problems in later models... hopefully.

1995 Saturn SC SC2 1.9L from North America

Summary:

I love this car

Faults:

Brakes (rotors, pads) replaced at 100,000 miles.

Brakes replaced again at 150,000.

Tires replaced.

Front bearings replaced at 150,000.

Engine mount replaced at 150,000.

Both door's weather stripping leaks.

General Comments:

It's had some work done, but I figure it's reasonable to how old the car is, and the amount of miles it has on it. I commute to work an hour both ways Mon-Fri. This car is extremely reliable, great on gas, but burns through oil like crazy. Runs very well.

1995 Saturn SC SC2 16v DOC from North America

Summary:

Great car for the money

Faults:

Cracked radiator fitting in 2006 (replaced myself).

AC needed freon recharge in 2005.

Tear in driver side leather seat from getting in/out a a lot.

General Comments:

My first new car and worth every penny spent. It's getting tired now goes thru oil pretty quickly after 190k miles, but is still very reliable and incredibly easy to perform routine maintenance (oil, filters, brakes).

1995 Saturn SC SC1 from North America

Summary:

It's great for what it is!

Faults:

The hook that holds the muffler up went, and it was banging under the car, so I had that replaced for 45 bucks.

The driver's window is off track and will need to have that replaced. That's all that I know of right now.

The engine starts and runs good; a little rough, but come on it's a 1995.

General Comments:

I love the car. It is what it is. I did not buy a 1995 Saturn expecting it to be perfect and give me no trouble. The body is in great shape, and it's great on gas!!

I got this car as a 2nd car to have; something great on gas. I have a 5 speed and I think it is fun to drive.

I have the bucket seats in mine; not sure if they all have that, but they are comfortable to me.

Yes there are some rattles and noises like that, but like I said it's a 1995 Saturn. Nothing that is going to ruin my day or anything.

The heat works very well. Moon roof is very strong, as are the power windows, other than the driver's side, that I have to get put back on track.

This car is going to last me a while. I'm glad I got it for sure!
