1995 Saturn SC SC2 from North America

Faults:

I bought this car used 7 years ago. It now has 122,000 miles on it. It died the first day I brought it home. It was skipping from 1st into 3rd gear. Dealer replaced.

Few other major mechanical problems.

My issue is the interior. It is falling apart! Cigarette lighter broken, overhead light doesn't stay in it's holder (so it just hangs there). Also, the dash rattles & has ever since I got the car.

The spoiler clear coat is chipping off and the headliner is falling apart. I'm relieved to see that others have this problem too.

Black strips that went between the car door and window peeled off. I ended up taking them off and spray painting them black.

Otherwise, this car goes! It still looks sporty and fun for being 10 years old.

1995 Saturn SC from North America

Summary:

Very good, realiable

Faults:

Needed new air filter, transmission leak (that I have yet to fix), runs hot sometimes (cooling fan needs to be fixed).

General Comments:

I bought this car over a month ago. I love it so far. I have had very few problems with it. It has a transmisson leak and the cooling fan needs to be fixed, but other than that it a great car. Its great on gas which is good because I am a poor college student.

1995 Saturn SC 1.9L from North America

Summary:

$5000 (including repairs) 50,000 miles, Not Bad!

Faults:

Oil Pan Gasket Leak

Power Sunroof needed repair

Serpentine Belt Tensioner

Dash Cover cracked.

General Comments:

I bought this car from a used car dealer (may have been my mistake!) in Florida and drove it home to Michigan. I paid $3200.00 with only 48000 miles on it. 35 mpg on my trip home. Thought it was a bargain, but ended up sinking more money than I thought I needed to.

This vehicle replaces a Dodge Shadow (for my daughter) that has 145000 miles and still running. I have to say the Shadow is more of a simple vehicle to work on. I am mechanically inclined and perform most maintenance myself.

I am disappointed that the Saturn had a bad oil pan gasket. Too big of a job for me. The dealer said it could have to do with age. Why then does the Shadow with more miles on it and is a year older still not leak? (Even though I had to do some head work on the Shadow)

But overall this car is more fun to drive than the Shadow. It sticks to the road like glue, good performance for a 4 cylinder, and comfortable to drive. Getting in and out a little difficult for me, perfect for my daughter. She loves the car.

I've read some reviews from these sour Japanese lovers who owned a Saturn. In a way I cannot blame them, you expect long reliability. Unfortunately I'm having a hard time saying a Saturn is better than a Japanese product. But Japanese products need service too. Anything mechanical needs service. If it wasn't for the oil pan leak I would be very satisfied with my purchase. $5000 total cost for a car with 50000 and now running well is not bad!

I enjoyed reading your article because I too have a 94 saturn and it has a oil leak. The dealer said it would cost about 700.00 to repair. Is this a big job to do and why. Overall I am please with the car.

1995 Saturn SC SC2 from North America

Summary:

If you can afford it, get it

Faults:

My water pump went out, My thermostat went out, My head light switch broke, My slave cylinder was leaking, which caused my clutch to burn out, My automatic driver side window motor is burning out, my sunroof motor is burning out, the clear coat on my paint is all chipping away, my paint is fading. My gas pedal broke off.

General Comments:

A very good car, IF you can afford to to pay double to fix it, what it cost to buy it. However it does have a lot of power, handles great, It has a very nice sporty look, And now that I have pretty much rebuilt the entire engine, seems almost reliable.
