1991 Saturn SL 1 1.9L gas from North America

Summary:

Real good! Needs mounts though

Faults:

Idle control valve.

Front wheel bearings.

A/C compressor.

Brake lines.

Power steering pump.

Gas tank straps.

Harmonic balancer.

Motor mounts.

General Comments:

Can't find motor mounts anywhere. They only made them for one year.

Part #21911326 right side, 21011342 front, and rear #21010726 ? Need just the rubber inserts!

Have you tried eBay? They seem to have the mounts.

Yes, I've tried eBay. All photos I've found only show the 1991 SC (DOHC) mounts and I don't know if they will fit the SL1 (SOHC). They look the same though. A lot of sellers are showing that the Anchor 2826 will fit. eBay & Amazon etc. I contacted Anchor Co. and they agreed. It will NOT fit! Some photos even show different part #s for the same part. Very frustrating!

Does anyone know who's on FIRST?

Thanks, Hammer20

1991 Saturn SL SL1 1.9L SOHC from North America

Summary:

Takes abuse with a smile

Faults:

It doesn't count mileage.

Rough idling at stop lights.

Radiator was replaced about 3 months after I got it.

A/C no longer works.

Shoddy interior craftsmanship. Panels are loose and rattle a lot.

Signal lights stop working sporadically, you have to beat the inside fuse-box in order to get them to work again.

Sunroof opens fine, but the sunroof won't close without a good beating in the open/close switch area.

Changed the front brakes about a year after purchase.

Nose clear-coat is peeling.

Window housing paint is peeling.

Driver's side window regulator needed replacing about a year after purchase.

Sensor and computer problems dealers and Mechanics can't seem to pinpoint or would require too much money to let them try.

General Comments:

All those problems aside the car hasn't really had any mechanical problems, it still runs great.

It's no race car and could use some more power, but it can hold it's own on the vicious California's freeway system.

It does feel like a race car in the handling and cornering.

Looks better than the average 14 year old car thanks to those polymer side panels.

Great gas mileage.

I run this car ridiculously hard and it still runs great. Some people can't believe it still works.

This car is great and is perfect for what I need it for. If you're looking for luxury and refinement you're looking in the wrong place, but if you need a car that won't let you down and you can get for around 1000-2000 dollars, you can't go wrong.

I have acquired a 1991 SL1 with automatic transmission as of about a month ago. At time of acquisition the car had 56,000 miles on it, and it was garaged most of its life.

I was very skeptical of this car, I've never liked Saturn and have adamantly told everyone I know who was considering one to forget it. But car was in very good shape, and the price was right.

After replacing the tires and having an alignment done, I am really surprised by this car.

This car is very light and handles really well, the seats are very comfortable, and although the ride is somewhat noisy at high speed, it really is a joy to drive. You can easily do a solid, comfortable 90 MPH in this car, and still not worry about burning up a lot of fuel. The fuel economy is above board, even if you drive as fast as I sometimes do.

What this car will not do, however, is stand up to hard abuse, i.e. lots of full throttle starts, spinning the tires, etc). If you take it easy on the car, and do basic maintenance (trans. fluid every 50k, coolant changes, good quality synthetic oil & quality oil filter every 4k) you will have no problem with this car for a very long time.
