1993 Saturn SL SL1 review from North America
"321,000 miles is a lot for an American car that gets 30 miles to the gallon of gas"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
My Saturn has 321,000 miles on it. It runs good as long as I keep tabs on the oil and change the spark plugs 3 times a year. It uses 1/3 to 1 quart every 100 miles.
I have had to replace 3 alternators and various other repairs over the last 17 years. All and all I can't complain about the length of time.
At 200,000 miles I had major computer problem's. The engine would just shut down at 60 miles an hour on the freeway or at 30 miles on the street. I would then pull over and could not restart the car for at least 30 minutes. The dealership was useless, but I found an old time mechanic who finally fixed it. The problem turned out to be a map sensor. The vehicle started using excessive oil at 80,000 miles and the problem has increased with the age of the car. I have been told the engine had a recall due to the engine cylinders are the wrong size.
General comments?
This Saturn has good gas mileage at 30 miles to the gallon of regular gas.
The car has lasted for 17 years of driving.
This car has gone through a lot of maintenance and repairs.
