2008 Suzuki SX4 2.0 from North America

Summary:

Buy a Suzuki and you bought reliability

Faults:

Autozone sold me a FWD (I have AWD) axle and it broke while driving; they attempted to replace with the correct one, but they made a mistake again, and yes the axle broke again. Horrendous experience. At least they paid the two towing bills. I since repaired with correct axle. Zero issues after.

Brakes seem to wear fast, maybe cause it's a 3000lb car.

Paint chips easy on the hood.

Belt tensioner was replaced a few times.

General Comments:

Love the car, absolutely love it. May not be a sexy car for a 48 year guy, but Suzuki really built a solid car. Second Suzuki I owned and that was also superb. I added aftermarket stereo, speakers, amp, sub under seat.

I installed heated seats and they are fantastic.

I would buy another SX4 tomorrow

Summary:

Unbelievably reliable

Faults:

I’ve only changed the windshield washer tubing, left side tie rods, one ball joint and done maintenance correctly.

General Comments:

No question the most reliable car I’ve ever owned. Unbelievable low operating cost.

Your car made it to 262K with only... a ball joint and tie rod replacement?

Uh, sure. OK. Gets 74 MPG too, right?

It is strictly impossible to go 200000 without tons of parts being replaced.

There is a 1998 Toyota Avalon review on here that claims the only repair in 320k was the shocks.

2008 Suzuki SX4 Sport 2.0L from North America

Summary:

Price was my reasoning!

Faults:

Tensioner belt squeals on start-up.

Cold crank issue.

Hard to start sometimes.

Interior rattles.

General Comments:

I really enjoy driving the car, it feels well built and handles great.

Seeing as I've only put 3000kms on it since I bought it, I seem to be having buyers regret. The small things I've noticed really seem to bother me a lot.

The car still has a manufacturer warranty for 100 000kms, so I might go see about getting that squealing belt looked at.

There are times when the car is hard to start??? I brought it to the dealership, and there was a bulletin stating that the ECU needed a re-flashing with newer software, whatever that meant. Anyways, I spent 60$ to fix it, and the problem is still happening.

I must admit I'm a little disappointed after reading such great reviews on the SX4. My main reason for buying it was the fact that it was built in Japan, so I knew the build quality would be great.

The gas mileage is pretty shameful for a compact.

Hopefully it lasts me a long time, here's hoping. If anyone has had similar issues, please comment.

Seems you need to go in and get it completely checked out if it is under warranty. Why would you not just do that? If you are getting poor mileage, that may be related to the other engine issues you are having.

Do you have complete service records on this vehicle? If it was not serviced properly by the dealer, you may not still have that warranty. Manufacturers offer up 100K mile warranties, but insist the car is maintained on their schedule. Don't assume you automatically have a warranty, if you don't have proof of its maintenance history.

Summary:

Excellent value for the price

General Comments:

All I have to say about this car is WOW!!

It is a fantastic car, very comfortable to ride in and drive.

Very spacious interior, has a nice growl when pushed.

The only thing I do not like is the fuel economy; best I got so far highway is 30 MPG.

April 2015. I got rid of the SX4. During the Christmas holidays the airbag light came on. I brought it to the dealer and the code stored said that it was part of a recall whereby the passenger airbag would not work properly. It was fixed for free.

Soon after the check engine light came on and the code was P2097. This pointed to a faulty oxygen sensor which I had replaced. The light came back on with the same code. This time the MAF sensor was cleaned. Light came back on again. Mechanic replaced the same oxygen sensor saying it was defective. Two days later the light came back on again with the same code. Brought it to the dealer who proceeded to change the spark plugs and changed the MAF sensor. Took the car home, and 2 km from the dealer the light came back on again with the same code. Dealer could not understand why the light came back on. This time dealer took 2 oxygen sensors from another SX4 and put them on the car. Light disappeared. Took it home and 2 weeks later the code came back on again. Code this time was P0420. Pointed to the oxygen sensor again. Was really fed up of seeing the light on and got rid of it. Too bad because I really liked the car.
