The Toyota 4 Runner is an excellent vehicle. My 2001 hasn't given me one problem since I bought it. Likewise to the review stating the only things that need attending to are fluids, etc--basic stuff. Hopefully, I will have my 4 Runner for many years to come. When the time comes to buy another car, I am definitely going to purchase another Toyota. The 1994 Camry I have is another piece of car genius! No problems at all and the car is 10 years old! I am simply amazed at Toyota. When people ask my opinion on what is the best car, I tell them "Anything Toyota!!!" Reliable, fun to drive and reasonably priced!

I bought a 4runner in October 2000 when I was pregnant with my first child. It has given me NO problems at all. I have 58k miles on it and tires are still great. I now have two children and I am thinking of upgrading to a larger Toyota for the room, but will most likely keep this for another 4 years. I LOVE IT!!!

Considering my experience with both leaders and followers in the suv world, I must agree with general comments about overall toyota quality. But when it comes to durability when the things get rough, I would go for a jeep despite irritating reliability issues. Off-road duty seems less natural with car-like design. No matter how high is your ground clearance, competence is the key. Not to mention patented suspension and traction devices.

After annoying little repairs on my Cherokee, I though it would be a peaceful thing to buy a 4runner, until I realize how major the repairs were after one year of rough roads.

Just bought a 2001 4runner, and just realized the power steering is much harder to turn than our 1999 4runner. Any recalls or ideas?

After 7 years, if you haven't change the entire suspension or major engine parts, you are a winner. Time tells the truth and reputation.

After 8 years of ownership I've had to replace a tail light and the clock doesn't work anymore. Mileage at 155k.

I got a 2001 Toyota 4Runner. Best car I ever had. Toyotas are the way to go. Lots of space. Not the best fuel economy. But has torque, towing capacity, cargo room, and off road ability to make up for the 15 miles a gallon mine is getting. Love the SUV, would advise all to get one if you are looking at a SUV. Running like new with 155,xxx miles. Great in New England. Great in summer, great in winter.

2001 4Runner with 63000 miles. Replaced front discs, one shock, one tail light bulb. 15 mpg in town 20 on the road. I keep wanting to trade, then talk myself out of it.
