1987 Toyota Celica GTS 2.0 from North America

Summary:

Killer looks and the driving characteristics to go with it!

Faults:

Driver's side front mud flap is missing, costs $125 to buy one from Toyota.

Right side headlight needed to be replaced.

Aerial antenna did not work when I bought it, but I fixed it.

Left rear speaker is blown.

Aluminum rims are badly pitted and need to be replaced or restored.

Had a new clutch installed before I bought it.

General Comments:

I just bought this car earlier this month. I came across it by sheer luck, and I was astounded by the condition it was in. There was so rust on it anywhere, the interior looked as if it had never been sat in, and the car was well cared for, although it had 216000 km on it.

So far, I have had a great deal of fun with the car. It is very fast, although I have only had it up to 165 kph, there is a ton of speed left in it.

The interior is quite comfortable once you get positioned correctly, and the lumbar support is great, especially on the sides, it pulls you right into the seat, which is great for spirited driving. Rear seating is very tight, I haven't had anyone back there yet, and don't know if I will!

The transmission is great, but 5th gear was awkward to find the first time I drove it. Once you get used to it, it's lots of fun. Just be careful when shifting into first, as sometimes you'll put it in 3rd due to the way neutral is set up. A very race car-like gearbox.

I wish the car had a cassette player in it, as it only has am am/fm radio, but I can live with that as the car itself sounds so great!

Air con is ice cold and always works, as does the heat.

1987 Toyota Celica GT 2.0 from North America

Summary:

Longest lasting car on the road if maintained properly

Faults:

Struts blew out at 110,000 miles.

Leaks oil regularly, always have to top it off.

Front skirt hard to keep in good condition.

Seats showing wear.

Rear side widows leaked water until I fixed it.

General Comments:

The car starts EVERY time I turn the key.

It runs very smooth and idles quietly.

Because struts are blown the ride is a little jerky, but was great when they were OK.

Very quick little car.

Fantastic gas mileage. 420 miles to a tank!!

1987 Toyota Celica GTS 16v DOHC from North America

Summary:

A fun, fast reliable little car!

Faults:

Alternator went at 150000 miles bought rebuilt for 300.00 Canadian.

Front brakes went at 152000 miles very expensive had to replace rotors and calipers cost 900.00 Canadian.

Car is starting to rust badly due too bad Canadian winters.. wash your car regularly! (my fault)

Relpaced heater blower (used) myself for 60.00. Heater not very good for Canadian winters though. Car tends to fog up during weather changes.

Generally maintenance is low.

General Comments:

Other than the large break job, this car is a gem!

Very fast, fun to drive lots of power for a four banger!. Has cost me a few dimes in speeding tickets.

Love this car just wish it sounded a little more hearty.

Always starts in winter. Has command start love it!. Very reliable Toyota is DA bomb!

I am looking for newer car, but for the teenager that wants to have a lot of fun at a low price.. go for it! nothing but fun and handling.

Once you get used to the tricky gear shift, you can make this baby fly!.

1987 Toyota Celica st 2.0 3SFE from North America

Summary:

A good bang for the buck

Faults:

Oil leak on the oil pan at 121000 miles.

Axles broke and tore the power steering pump.

Hard to change transmission fluid.

The transmission gears wore out too early.

After markets parts are hard to find for it.

General Comments:

The car handles exeptionally well and brakes are sufficient.

This model however is pretty good car to race at a road course because of its torque if you put after markets performance parts.

Its performance is well enough to compete with sport compact cars.

The engine performance is great for its class it has a lot of toque.
